About the role
This position will behosted by the International Water Management Institute in Ghana, on behalf ofthe International Potato Center. The selected candidate will be based inTamale, Ghana during the baseline data collection, initial program roll-out,and endline data collection. The Research Field Associate Scientist will reportto the Project and Marketing Manager, Country Liaison and will work closelywith academic researchers and other field staff.
Key Responsibilities:
·Tracking programstatus and randomization compliance during initial roll-out, and spot-checkingrandomization compliance during the project.
·Overseeing thetraining of data collection team.
·Monitoring andassisting staff working on the project.
·Assisting in thedesigning of the survey questionnaires.
·Conducting basicqualitative research if necessary.
·Running pilotexercises.
·Helping in refiningstudy design and surveying instruments.
·Negotiating contractswith survey firms where necessary.
·Checking collecteddata during the data collection and after.
·Conducting statisticalanalysis of the data.
·Providing context andbackground on evaluation results as necessary.
·Assisting in thewriting of project reports.
·Providing frequentwritten updates on status of project and evaluation.
·Coordinating withlocal partners running the program being evaluated.
·Supporting outreach topolicymakers in country.
Requirements
Essential
·PhD’sstudies in economics, social sciences, public policy, rural development, orrelated fields.
·Minimumof 8 years of relevant work experience with at least 2-4 years of prior work inevaluations and household surveys in developing countries.
·Trainingin development economics, social sciences, and related fields and RandomizedEvaluations.
·Experienceliving and conducting field research in Northern Ghana.
·Excellentmanagement and organizational skills along with strong quantitative skills
·Theability to present positions and to negotiate with senior officials.
·Fluencyand excellent communication skills (both written and oral) in English
·Flexibility,self-motivation, the ability to manage multiple tasks efficiently as a teamplayer
·Demonstratedability to manage high-level relationships with partner organizations.
·Familiaritywith randomized controlled trials.
·AdvancedMicrosoft office skills and experience using and collaborating on google drive
·Experiencewith basic data analysis
·Goodscientific writing skills with evidence of publication
Desirable
·Familiaritywith one or more main languages spoken in Northern Ghana preferred (especiallyDagbani, Mampruli, Gonja, Likpakpa and Chekusi).
·Knowledgeof Stata, SAS, or other data analysis software.
