Geochemistry Lead
il y a 4 semaines
Who we are --------
We are Mantle 8, a clean-tech start-up revolutionising natural hydrogen exploration with cutting-edge technology and geology. We seek an experienced geochemist to help deliver our transformative technology for the energy transition.
Natural hydrogen offers an affordable, abundant energy source, with significant potential in Europe. At Mantle 8, we leverage 20+ years of expertise in geology, predictive modeling, and 4D imaging to pinpoint optimal reserves.
Backed by leading clean-tech investors, including Breakthrough Energy Ventures and Kiko Ventures, we're scaling up affordable natural hydrogen—and you could be a key of this journey
What the job is about --------
As a Geochemistry Lead, you will lead the development and execution of advanced geochemical analyses on both minerals and fluids to document and quantify the natural hydrogen potential in targeted geological settings of Mantle8.
In this position, you will be a technical lead responsible to build and manage the whole Geochemistry team/department of the company; and as such will be the right hand of the CTO.
Your expertise will be critical in evaluating natural hydrogen potential. Key target environments relate to intra-continental serpentinization processes, water-rock interactions, and thermodynamics of hydrogen generation through ferrous iron-bearing minerals oxidation.
You will also collaborate with the geology, geophysics and data teams to integrate geochemical insights into Mantle8's exploration workflows, while contributing to proprietary analytic and modelling approaches. Additionally, expertise in isotopic analyses, (including hydrogen, methane isotopy and clumped isotopes) will be essential to the role.
Experience in fluid reservoir geochemistry and behaviour (e.g., PVT analyses) will be considered a strong advantage.
What you'll be doing --------
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (including Geology, Geophysics, and Data/Digital) to align geochemical research with exploration objectives and mentor junior geochemists.
- Build partnerships with labs and research institutions to enhance analytical capabilities and publish results in high-impact platforms.
- Design and execute geochemical studies and develop proxies to evaluate hydrogen generation processes, including serpentinization and water-rock interactions.
- Refine thermodynamic models to quantify hydrogen production and predict its occurrence in geological contexts.
- Conduct isotopic analyses of fluids (e.g., hydrogen, methane) to characterise origins and reactions in natural hydrogen systems.
- Lead geochemical modelling efforts to simulate hydrogen generation and integrate data into exploration models.
- Interpret and synthesize geochemical and isotopic datasets to guide exploration strategies and present findings to stakeholders.
Our ideal profile --------
- Ph.D. in Geochemistry, Earth Sciences, or related field
- 5+ years of professional experience in petroleum geochemistry, geochemical analysis and modelling, or geoscience/resource industries.
- Expertise in geochemical processes (PVT analysis, serpentinization, water-rock interactions, thermodynamics), modelling tools (e.g., PHREEQC), and thermodynamics and its applications to geological processes.
- Proficiency in laboratory techniques for mineral, fluid, and isotopic analysis, with a strong understanding of isotopic systems (e.g., hydrogen, methane).
- Proven track record of impactful research or applied studies, with a strong publication record in peer-reviewed journals.
- Strong managerial, analytical, and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and team members; and communicate effectively to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Dynamic and flexible individual able to adapt to a start-up setting constantly evolving with strong drive to contribute to clean-tech innovations.
- Willing to relocate to the French Alps (Grenoble area)
What we offer --------
- A competitive salary with additional employee benefits including meal & vacation vouchers, corporate welfare plan and supplementary health insurance
- Indefinite contract with worker protection as provisioned by French law
- A unique opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking hydrogen exploration research across all fields of geosciences.
- A collaborative and innovative work environment in the heart of the French Alps.
- Professional growth opportunities in a top EU clean-tech start-up in a rapidly evolving energy sector.
Come join us and play a key role in our journey to revolutionizing the energy transition
