Job Overview 

 

British Council’s English Language centre in Paris was opened in 1998, initially as a small operation offering classes to Young Learners.

BC Paris Teaching today operates out of its prestigious, centrally located Invalides premises and currently 10 off-site premises in the Il-de-France region. We offer a wide range of Young Learner classes to 4,000 learners aged between 3 and 18 during the Academic Year and to another 1,300 during the Holiday Courses. The Adult programme began in 2007 and offers lessons in Semester, Terms and Intensive cycles. At any one time we have over 1,000 Adults engaged in learning with us.

The operation continues to grow and we have ambitions to continue expanding in to our ten off-site operations.

 

A full-time teacher will be expected to be available to teach a range of ages and courses at any of British Council’s delivery locations and will work with a large and highly succesful team of teachers and academic staff.

Main accountabilities 

 

• Plan, prepare and deliver high quality English language teaching that meets the needs of different customer groups, taking into account individual learning needs.
• Monitor progress and provide regular feedback to help manage students’ performance throughout the course, and actively promote learner autonomy.
• Contribute to the development, evaluation, and improvement of English language courses, materials and related services, in order to meet students’ needs by actively working as a member of the teaching team.
• Complete teaching related administrative tasks to specified standards.
• Actively engage in professional development and performance management to ensure quality and high standards in teaching and learning and maintain the British Council’s position at the forefront of best ELT practices.
• Contribute to the development of lasting, mutually beneficial relationships by enhancing students’ understanding of contemporary UK culture.
• Support local marketing and promotional strategy and assist the teaching centre team in delivering excellent customer service. 
• To ensure policies and guidelines are applied and upheld in line with standards and policy for the following areas:
  • Child protection 
  • Equality, Diversity and Inclusion, especially with regard to children with Special Educational Needs
  • Health and Safety

 

Qualifications 

 

Essentials

 

• Cambridge CELTA  AND/OR Trinity cert TESOL.
• Bachelor’s degree (any subject)

 

Desirables

 

• Specific YL extension course (TYLEC or CELTYL or NILE etc.)
• Either Recognised diploma in EFL e.g. DELTA , AND / OR
• PGCE or B.Ed in Primary/Secondary or relevant subject
   

 

Work Experience

 

Essentials

 

• 2 years post-certificate i.e. CELTA/Trinity cert TESOL experience
• Experience in teaching relevant age groups specific to the centre 
  • Early Years aged 2 to 5 (400+)
  • Primary aged 6 to 10 (400+ hours)
  • Lower Secondary aged 11 to 14 (800+ hours)
  • Upper Secondary aged 15 to 17 (800+ hours)
  • Adults General English 18+ (800+ hours)
  • Cambridge suite and IELTS exam preparation courses

 

Desirable

 

• Teaching Experience to Young Learners:
  •  Early years (age 2 - 5) (800+ hours)
  • Primary (age 6 – 10) (800 hours)
  • Secondary (age 11 – 17) (1900+ hours)

Salary and Benefits

 

• Salary: Monthly salary 2,745 Euro – 3,552 Euro (Gross) (Depending on qualification and work experience)
• Meals and transport are subsidized on working days.
• Training hours are included in the package for each teacher, as are allowances for bank holidays and annual leave.
• Medical Allowance: France has excellent medical facilities and services. Staff are covered by the National Health Insurance Scheme. 
• Settling allowance, Flight, Accommodation allowance, Baggage allowance -  NOT applicable for the role

 

Additional Information:

 

• Income Tax: All staff working in France are liable to pay local income tax. Staff are responsible for managing their own end of year tax form and ensuring they submit it on time. Income tax in France is now taken at source and checked off at the end of each calendar year via tax return.
• Teaching hours/week: Depending on the operational need
• Duration: Indefinite contract
• Start Date : 5th Sepetember 2025
• Working day: Tuesday - Saturday - Classes are scheduled based on operational needs with the busiest times being Saturdays and Wednesdays. Teachers are expected to utilise IT in the classroom and perform administrative duties relating to their classes (reports, registers, records of work, parent meetings, etc.)
• Right to Work/Passport Requirement:  Applicants must have the right to work in France, post Brexit.Unfortunately the British Council cannot assist in candidate relocation or visa process
