EDF Trading Markets Limited is the Paris Branch of EDF Trading and serves as the hub for the European Optimisation business. The Trading and Analytical Teams in Paris work around the clock in collaboration with EDF Asset management to optimize EDF SA production assets on European wholesale markets. The team engages in optimization and proprietary trading activities across multiple markets.
Position Purpose:
As an Intraday Power Trader at EDF Trading, you will be a crucial part of our dynamic trading team. We are looking for individuals with a unique mix of commercial acumen, analytical skills, and technical expertise to make quick decisions in a fast-paced trading environment. Your role will involve trading, model development, strategy enhancement, and mentorship.
To excel in this position, you need sharp technical abilities, determination, and discipline to thrive in the challenging realm of power trading. Making decisive choices under pressure is key to success here. Attention to detail is paramount for accurate trades and analyses, while effective communication is vital for team collaboration and insights sharing.
Moreover, in this role, you will frequently utilize coding languages like VBA and Python for developing and optimizing trading models. Proficiency in these languages and strong IT skills are crucial for success.
Although prior knowledge of the gas market is not obligatory, it can be a valuable asset when trading in interconnected energy markets.
Main Responsibilities:
- Intraday Power Trading: Execute power trades across various European markets, including products tradable minutes before physical power delivery.
- Model Development: Collaborate on refining trading models using programming languages like Python and VBA.
- Continuous Improvement: Enhance existing trading strategies and models in coordination with analysts to stay ahead in the Intraday power market.
- Portfolio Management: Oversee one of the largest portfolios in Europe, leveraging the expertise of experienced colleagues.
- Training: Undergo comprehensive training for quick proficiency in trading, transitioning to detailed market analysis and developing analytical tools.
- Market Knowledge: Gain deep insights into various commodities and power markets across Europe.
- Mentorship: Mentor junior traders as you gain expertise, fostering a collaborative team environment.
This role is subject to Front Office Supervision Procedures, and you must adhere to them at all times, confirming annual understanding.
Experience Required:
- 1-2 years of experience in commodities trading, asset optimization, risk management, or portfolio analysis, or a related field.
Technical Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Finance, Economics, Engineering, Mathematics, or related disciplines. Advanced degrees are a plus. Strong analytical and quantitative abilities, with the capacity for swift decisions in trading environments. Proficiency in programming languages, particularly VBA and Python, and a solid IT tool aptitude. Excellent attention to detail, communication skills, and collaborative teamwork. Motivated, disciplined individual who excels in high-pressure scenarios. Knowledge or experience in the gas market is beneficial but not obligatory.Hours of Work:
- Flexibility required for work hours and days due to market demands.
- Shift rotation includes night and weekend shifts (24/7).
