About the Team

You will be working closely with the European underwriting function from our Paris office. You will lead the underwriting strategy and operations across all product lines, ensuring alignment with the Group’s financial goals for profitability and efficiency.

Mission

As Chief Underwriting Officer Europe, reporting to the Group CUO, you will be a key player in the Group’s Underwriting Leadership team, driving profitable growth across European markets. In this pivotal role, you will lead the underwriting strategy and operations across all product lines, ensuring alignment with the Group’s financial goals for profitability and efficiency.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Overseeing the European underwriting function from our Paris office, setting organizational goals and strategies in collaboration with the Group Underwriting team.
  2. Developing and managing portfolio management standards, monitoring technical performance, and guiding pricing and underwriting actions for each line of business alongside Business Heads and pricing actuaries.
  3. Being accountable for the financial underwriting results of our European operations.
  4. Ensuring all activities comply with regulatory standards and maintaining robust governance.
  5. Leading the creation and refinement of underwriting policies.
  6. Overseeing European Underwriting Committees and other necessary committees.
  7. Providing direction and resources to achieve objectives while adhering to Group and regulatory standards, policies, and procedures.
  8. Making underwriting decisions regarding significant insurance risks.
Profile
  1. A seasoned leader with around 10 years of relevant experience in leading Underwriting, Pricing, or a line of business function in European or UK markets.
  2. Advanced skills in portfolio management.
  3. Experience overseeing a range of insurance product lines, especially in Motor, Home, and SME sectors.
  4. A passion for continuous innovation.
  5. Exceptional communication, collaboration, and influencing skills, adept at building trusted relationships with leaders and stakeholders.
  6. Strong people management abilities, with a proven track record of developing and sustaining high-performing teams.
  7. Comfortable navigating ambiguity and adaptable to change.
  8. Fluency in both French and English is mandatory.
