VP of Cloud Operations

Our Global Business Management Software Vendor client is transitioning its offerings from a mix of on-premises solutions and dedicated hosting by partners to a comprehensive cloud offering on AWS. This new cloud platform will include a wide range of products available in both single-tenant and multi-tenant configurations. Over the next few years, the business aims to have 35% of its 13,5000 customers on the cloud platform, through a combination of new sales and customer migrations. With this in mind, the business has decided to hire a VP of Cloud Operations, reporting to the CTO, to oversee the implementation and operation of the cloud platform. This role is operations-oriented, with a focus on building and managing the platform.
The VP of Cloud Operations will play a pivotal role in shaping and executing the company’s cloud strategy. They will own the technical roadmap for the cloud platform, ensuring that all operations adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements. Additionally, the VP will manage the cloud operations budget, identify cost-saving opportunities, and ensure the efficient use of resources aligned with financial targets. They will also recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
Responsibilities
Strategic Planning and Governance
- Own the technical roadmap for the cloud platform.
- Ensure cloud operations adhere to industry standards and regulatory requirements, maintaining compliance with data protection laws and relevant regulations.
- Collaborate with the VP of Security to implement and oversee robust security measures to protect customer data and ensure compliance with relevant regulations and standards.
Operational Excellence and Performance
- Oversee the implementation of platform services (uptime, backups, data recovery, incident management, onboarding/offboarding) and be accountable for meeting SLAs/SLOs.
- Implement robust monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify and resolve performance issues.
- Collaborate with process engineering to ensure engineering processes align with cloud platform needs.
- Create and manage a detailed roadmap and migration process based on product cloud readiness and business priorities.
Cross -Departmental Collaboration
- Work closely with departments such as go-to-market, professional services, customer support, and legal to ensure seamless integration and alignment of cloud operations with overall business objectives.
Team Leadership and Development
- Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing cloud operations team, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and excellence.
- Manage the cloud architecture team responsible for the cloud platform architecture.
- Oversee a cross-product DevOps and platform engineering team assisting development teams with cloud migrations.
- Promote and support a DevSecOps culture.
Skills, Knowledge & Expertise
- Expertise in managing and owning technical roadmaps for cloud platforms, including performance, uptime, and reliability.
- In-depth knowledge of industry standards and regulatory requirements, with a focus on data protection laws and cloud security measures.
- Ability to develop and manage budgets for cloud operations, ensuring cost-effective use of resources and financial alignment.
- Experience in cloud transformation, including creating and managing migration roadmaps and executing customer cloud migrations.
- Strong understanding of SLAs/SLOs and experience in implementing robust monitoring and alerting systems.
- Proven ability to work cross-functionally to align cloud operations with overall business objectives.
- Experience in developing, and leading high-performing cloud operations and engineering teams.
- Expertise in leading incident and bridge management efforts, ensuring swift resolution and continuous improvement
