You will be attached to the Bars & Wires center in Process Department which is composed by 9 researchers working on development and deploying process solutions for ArcelorMittal. You will join the Steelmaking team working on innovative solutions to improve the steel quality in liquid and solidification phase for Long Products.
**Your role**
The job consists in developing further the competencies of the R&D Center Bars&Wires in continuous casting and secondary metallurgy.
Your main activities will be:
- To contribute to the development and industrialization of our online models in Long Carbon steel plants in the framework of Industry 4.0. The objectives of these models are to give to the plant team an assessment of the product quality directly after casting and to deliver recommendations to adjust settings when process drifts occur.
- To support long carbon plants in the optimization of the continuous casting process in the objective to solve quality and production issues as well as to assist to the development of new products, via the means of instrumentation, data analysis and numerical simulation.
- To improve the metallurgical practice in reheating furnace aiming to enhance the steel cleanliness.
- To provide technical support to the plant to optimize metallurgical routes and process/product adaptation.
- To reinforce knowledge development and innovation in the field of continuous casting in the framework of internal and external partnerships and collaborations.
- To manage medium and long term projects (>12 months) in the scope of the engineers activities.
This job necessitates a strong collaboration with plants, a good reactivity and a sense of priorities to overcome urgent issues. In addition, the applicant will work in multi-disciplinary teams involving various cultures. To perform in this job, good communication skills are required. Furthermore, business trips in plants (worldwide) will be necessary sometimes.
**Your profile**
- You hold a Master's degree in Materials science; or a PhD in a related field;
- You benefit form a preliminary experience in a steel plant or in secondary metallurgy and/or on a continuous caster;
- You are a team player, you have great communication skills, and you are able to work autonomously;
- You are curious and want to learn constantly;
- You are fluent in English and French, any other language would be a plus.
