**Learning Accommodations Coordinator** (Temporary, maternity replacement - mid-June to end of September)
The Learning Accommodation Coordinator (LAC) will be responsible for the development,
implementation, support and review of programs supporting students in need of academic
accommodations. The LAC provides direct support to students with disabilities as defined by the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The LAC conducts disability eligibility analyses, provides referrals, approves reasonable accommodations, and connects individuals with services to support their personal and/or academic goals.
The LAC also educates campus constituencies regarding support for students with disabilities and facilitates compliance with the ADA/ADAAA and University policies. The LAC serves as a member of the Academic Resource Center (ARC) and the Learning Commons, participating in the development and review of policy and procedures, strategic planning, programming and advising.
**Duties and Responsibilities**
- Onboards new students with accommodations to AUP: Performs intake interviews to gain a foundational understanding of individual needs and evaluates information from medical and/or psychological professionals to determine eligibility; makes referrals and/or consults with diagnosticians, as necessary.
- Works with students and their faculty to determine reasonable accommodations needed for academic and personal success; connects students to and/or provides direct resources and services.
- Coordinates with faculty and staff colleagues across departments to help provide and
further develop support services for students with accommodations.
- Educates students, families, faculty and staff on appropriate services for and
communications with students with disabilities; compiles and distributes necessary
documentation to verify the need for accommodation.
- Monitors progress of students, providing direction and support for students who are
experiencing academic difficulties and providing problem solving advocacy for students,
mediating problems as needed.
- Conducts awareness programs to educate the University community on disability related
issues and the services provided by the office, delivering presentations, trainings and
workshops as well as educational materials grounded in research and best practices.
- Maintains the departmental web and social media presence, reviewing and updating
publications regularly.
- Works with the ARC director to determine an assessment plan to determine effectiveness of accommodations, analyzes data and compiles yearly reports.
- Maintains confidentiality of university and student records, as applicable.
- Maintains currency of knowledge with respect to technology, equipment, applicable laws, regulations, standards and/or systems. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
- Knowledge and understanding of FERPA, 504 and ADA regulations, guidelines and standards applicable to an academic and/or workplace setting.
- Strong listening, interpersonal communication and effective presentation skills.
- Knowledge of and experience with assessing disability documentation and determining
reasonable accommodations. This includes knowledge of assessment tools and test scores generally used in making diagnoses.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Skilled in facilitating problem solving with individuals regarding personal, professional
and/or academic priorities.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to gather data, compile
information and prepare reports.
- Knowledge of teaching methods, curriculum, and education programs designed for students with learning, physical and behavioral disabilities, where applicable.
- Ability to communicate with and relate to individuals of diverse disabilities and backgrounds.
- Success at initiating, executing and following up on projects, including the ability to set
specific objectives and measure achieved results.
- Flexibility, including the acceptance of and willingness to change.
- Open-mindedness, including fairness and the ability to see multiple perspectives.
- The willingness to take risks and be innovative.
- Bachelor's degree in a directly related field; at least 3 years of experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.
- Completed degree(s) from an accredited institution that are above the minimum education requirement may be substituted for experience on a year for year basis.
Preferences
A master's degree in special education, educational psychology, rehabilitation counseling, learning disabilities, special education, education, psychology, communication disorders, educational or school psychology, counseling or a related field is preferred.
Fluent in English, (being a native speaker preferred), B2 level in French.
