**Mission**:
As a Microfluidics Development Engineer at Okomera, you'll be a pillar of the tech lab. Your mission will be to run microfluidic droplet protocols without cells on the fluidic machines, analyse data and understand the experimental limitations to improve their robustness for various protocols. You will be working autonomously in the tech lab with our different machines and imaging systems. You will have a direct impact on the features and robustness of our current instruments. This role presents an exhilarating challenge, and you will be directly supervised by the microfluidic R&D scientist who develop the machines.
**Key Responsibilities**:
- **Fluidic Automation**: We strive to provide easy-to-use and robust instruments for unlocking the power of microfluidics to non-experts. You will be at the heart of this fluidic automation challenge.
- **Experimental Work**: Some wet lab experience is mandatory (pipetting, dilutions, basic safety ). You will be expected to be hands-on in the lab the majority of the time, and use your critical experimental thinking to move our ambitious development forwards.
- **Consistent Reporting**: You will write technical reports and discuss results with the R&D Scientist and the microfluidic team.
**Our Expectations**:
- **Master in Mechanical Engineering or Equivalent Qualification**: A basic understanding of microfluidic phenomena such as surface tension, viscosity and wetting is required to understand the experiments and be able to spot inconsistencies.
- **Familiar with Programming**: You will need to run Python code and optimize some automation parameters. So we expect you to be comfortable with some level of programming.
- **Microfluidics Engineering Aficionado**:We are looking for someone that loves running experiments in the lab, and building new technologies.
- **Communication Skills**: Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential.
**Nice to have**:
- **Microscopy Experience**:Fluorescence and bright field microscopy is our main readout.
- **Image and Data Analysis Experience**:Some basic experience in Python image processing, segmentation and data analysis would be greatly appreciated.
