OVERVIEW OF THE FUNCTIONS OF THE POST
The Executive Office of the Culture Sector provides strategic advice, quality control and management support to the Assistant Director-General for Culture (ADG/CLT) and ensures the overall coordination of the development, implementation and monitoring of the approved programme and budget of the Culture Sector, as well as the communication with other sectors at UNESCO, with other agencies of the UN System and with external partners.
Under the overall authority of the Assistant Director-General for Culture (ADG/CLT) and the direct supervision of the Chief of the Executive Office of the Culture Sector (Chief CLT/EO), the incumbent contributes to the monitoring, reporting of the implementation of Major Programme IV (Culture) and its contribution to intersectoral, transversal and UN-wide reports and exercises, in close cooperation with the Sector’s Entities, Units and staff at Headquarters and in the Field.
The incumbent will also contribute to the implementation of initiatives related to UNESCO’s Global Priorities (Africa and Gender Equality), priority groups and transversal thematic areas, such as Culture and Education, Culture and Climate Change, Indigenous Peoples, Small Island Developing States (SIDS), and Youth.

Long Description
Monitor, coordinate, provide inputs and finalize contributions for the timely preparation of the statutory documents of the Culture Conventions. Process and synthesize Sector-wide inputs to strategic programme documents (Medium-Term Strategy, C/4; Programme and Budget, C/5) and documents submitted to the Governing Bodies of UNESCO, including on transversal matters such as Global Priority Africa, Global Priority Gender Equality, Small Islands Developing States (SIDS), Youth, Indigenous Peoples as well as other house-wide intersectoral initiatives.
Ensure the coordination and contribute to the elaboration of strategic documents and external message delivery of senior management, based on the inputs of the Sector’s Entities, and in line with the Medium-Term Strategy (C/4) and Programme and Budget (C/5). This involves coordinating the timely preparation and finalization of working documents, as well as ensuring effective quality control and consolidation of contributions from the relevant Entities of the Culture Sector and central services; drafting substantive input; reviewing, editing and/or revising texts and documents, in line with the Organization’s policies and procedures; researching, fact-checking and carrying out data-analysis as appropriate. Prepare information materials for the Director-General (DG), ADG/CLT and Chief CLT/EO, in view of the sessions of the Executive Board and the General Conference, and the statutory meetings of the Culture Conventions.
Long Description
Contribute to the planning and coordination of the elaboration of concept notes, project documents and reports to be submitted to partners/donors - both public and private - in line with priorities of the Culture Sector. Such planning and coordination encompass the effective liaison with the relevant sectors/bureaus/units within the Culture Sector at Headquarters, with Field Offices colleagues, other Programme Sectors and central services, as well as partners/donors as necessary. Ensure the timely consolidation and quality control of inputs submitted by the Entities of the Culture Sector in the framework of the design, implementation, monitoring and reporting on programme and project implementation. Assist Chief CLT/EO in monitoring and reporting on the Sector’s voluntary-funded activities, in line with approved priorities and in close cooperation with central services.
Contribute to the backstopping of UNESCO Field Offices in monitoring and managing CLT inputs to UN exercises including United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Frameworks (UNSDCFs); Country Programme Documents (CPDs); contributions to the reports of the UN Secretary-General; and UN reform reports. Contribute to information and analytical materials for senior management in these areas.
