As we are engaged with Europe’s most reputable engineering companies for the Bankable Feasibility Study and Front End Engineering Design of the project, you will work with the best technical resources in the market and participate in the design of a state-of-the-art hydrometallurgical and chemical production facility.
The Process Engineer role is multi-faceted and you will be asked to work autonomously and provide knowledge for the design, construction, operation and then continuous improvement of a tier-1 lithium production facility to position Viridian Lithium as the global leader in battery grade lithium chemicals refining. You will be surrounded by the best lithium experts and project engineers in the industry.
The role is based in our headquarters in Strasbourg, France.
**Job description**
The mission of the process engineer is to ensure the efficient design and successful commissioning of the hydrometallurgical processes and unit operations which constitute the Project. In the longer term, he/she will be tasked to ensure the optimum technical and economic process performance.
Under the direction of the Chief Operating Officer, this role will focus on planning, developing and executing the construction of a greenfield Lithium refining and conversion plant, achieving safety, operability, schedule, and cost goals for the project.
**Key responsibilities**:
Engineering Design:
- collaborating with the external engineering teams on the front-end engineering design efforts. Ensuring flowsheets, PIDs, Process equipment data sheets, Control logic, equipment technology and selection, and other engineering deliverables are consistent with engineering standards and the company’s overall strategy and objectives.
- Participate in trade-off studies
- Participate in Hazops o Assist in developing sampling and analysis protocols
- Assist in the design of assaying procedures and selection of assay laboratory equipment
Construction and Commissioning:
- Assist in client representation and contractor management during the project construction and commissioning phase
- Assist in conducting project acceptance trials o Assist in establishing and delivering operator training programs during the pre
- operational phase and subsequently
Research & Development:
- Assist in the direction and supervision of R&D programs, the establishment of pilot plant facilities and the implementation of process optimisation and new process R&D programs.
- Carrying out chemical, kinetic and thermodynamic studies
- Carrying out static and dynamic heat & mass balance modelling and supporting financial performance optimisation studies.
- Establishing metallurgical accounting and plant performance evaluation and reporting
- Sustain and improve process yield and optimise plant availability and throughput.
- Troubleshooting problems associated with processes and machinery o Evaluating processes and equipment to ensure compliance with environmental and safety regulations Conducting tests and monitoring process performance throughout production
**About You & What you will bring**
Education/Experience:
- Chemical Engineering or Process Engineering degree or equivalent
- 2 years minimum post-graduate experience relevant to the role with prior experience in the industrial chemical or pharmaceutical industries preferred whether in engineering, contracting or operational setting.
- Proficiency in chemistry
- knowledge of hydrometallurgical unit operations such as evaporation, IX, filtration and crystallization-precipitation, stirred reactors, systems with multiple recycle streams, drying and packaging as well as typical utilities and ancillary processes and equipment
- Experience in scoping and management of metallurgical testwork programs (benchscale, pilot scale, on-site testing) and plant optimisation
- Experience in modelling the mass and energy balance of process systems (SysCad,Pro/II, Hysys )
