Overview The EIB’s Legal Directorate (JU) – EU Operations Department – (OPS‑EU) – Northern Europe Division (NE) – Austria and Germany Unit (AT‑DE) seeks a Banking and Finance Lawyer to support legal matters primarily for projects in Austria and Germany, and secondarily for other Northern European countries. Responsibilities Draft and negotiate legal documentation for lending and financing operations, including bilateral loans, project finance, structured finance, securitisations, and risk‑sharing structures. Provide legal advisory support, conclude contracts, and complete all related formalities. Conduct legal research and study emerging issues and instruments. Manage contacts and negotiations with clients, external counsel, and stakeholders. Prepare terms of reference for external counsel and supervise their work when necessary. Maintain relationships within EIB, its clients, and external advisers, representing EIB externally. Travel may be required for negotiations, signatures, and contract finalisation. Qualifications University degree in law (Bachelor or higher); a Master level qualification is preferred. Qualified in German or Austrian law is preferred. 5‑15 years of professional experience in bank lending, project finance, or capital markets, preferably with an international law firm or in‑house legal department of a financial institution. Experience drafting and negotiating finance documents in English; experience in German is an advantage. Knowledge of civil and commercial law of a jurisdiction relevant to the Division’s work is an asset. Experience in structured finance and/or project finance/PPP transactions is advantageous. Excellent command of English and/or French (with a good level of the other language); proficiency in German is a distinct advantage. Very good knowledge of standard computer tools.
