Position Overview

The Department of Engineering Science intends to appoint a full‑time Senior Research Fellow (SRF) in Biomedical Engineering, beginning 1 October 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter. This is a fixed‑term academic post until 31 August 2032, based at the Institute of Biomedical Engineering (OX3 7LD). The appointment will strengthen the Department’s research in Biomedical Engineering and the Biomedical Ultrasonics, Biotherapy and Biopharmaceuticals Laboratory (BUBBL).

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct original research in Biomedical Engineering with a particular focus on therapeutic ultrasound applications.
  • Obtain external funding to develop a new and independent research programme.
  • Assist in the teaching of undergraduate and graduate subjects, including lectures, practical classes, demonstrations and project work.
  • Supervise fourth‑year undergraduate projects, Masters and Doctoral students, including those as part of the Centre for Doctoral Training in Engineering Biology.
  • Report to the Head of Department and act as the leader of the research group, setting clear objectives, developing productive working relationships and line‑managing team members.

Qualifications

  • Doctorate and significant post‑qualification research experience in Biomedical Acoustics, Biomedical Engineering or a similar field.
  • Research interests that align with the Department’s expertise in biomedical ultrasonics, biotherapy, biopharmaceuticals, signal processing and pre‑clinical modelling of ultrasound‑based interventions.
