Residential Treatment Specialist - Nights
Type: Regular
We are hiring for a positive and personable individual who will provide direct care to individuals with psychiatric and/or substance abuse disorders in a residential setting ensuring the safety and well‑being of each resident. The role includes maintaining the therapeutic environment, providing individual and group support, meal preparation, childcare, transportation, and general support of the residents.
This position is for overnight night coverage, 3 nights a week, 12 hour shifts at Mary Benson House—a home‑like setting that provides 24‑hour housing and substance abuse treatment for adult pregnant and/or parenting women and their children from birth to five years old.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct care to residents as delegated by the house manager, program director, or supervisor.
- Performs/assists residents with activities of daily living consistently and according to policy and standards.
- Monitors the self‑administration of medication for residents.
- Assists residents and children with nutritional needs.
- Observes residents and effectively communicates significant changes or reactions to care to the treatment team.
- Consistently anticipates and meets residents’ needs.
- Follows the plan of care designed to meet the emotional needs of the residents, including safety level checks as appropriate.
- Communicates effectively, verbally and in writing, with residents, family, and co‑workers.
- Demonstrates positive consumer‑relation behaviors and attitudes.
- Assists other staff members as the need arises.
Qualifications
- Graduation from high school and at least two years of experience in health care work at the level of health care assistant or an associate of arts in mental health; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
- Experience must be in the field of substance abuse and/or mental health.
- Certification in CPR and first aid, two years experience in a health care setting, and knowledge of addiction and recovery programs.
- Valid North Carolina driver’s license.
Pre‑employment screening

- Drug testing.
- Education verification and other credentialing based on position requirements.
- Proof of employment history or references (if required).
- Proof of driver’s license, driver’s insurance, and vehicle, if required for providing transportation.
