Cryogenic stage thermal engineer

Our aim is to successfully design and test a cost-effective and reusable mini-launch vehicle by 2026.Cryogenic stage thermal engineerWe are looking for a thermal engineer to join one of our Cryogenic Stage Teams. Our teams design, manufacture and test the cryogenic stages.You will be in charge of the determination of thermal environment to which the stage and its constituting sub-systems are submitted. The main focus will be the determination of thermal environment in stage and launcher cavities. You will also have the responsibility to size of the necessary thermal regulation systems: conditioning, thermal protections… You will work in close collaboration with thermal engineer from other product teams with the possible support of experts.Your tasks include all or a sub-set of the following based on your experience and abilities:Contribute to the cryogenic stage development plan by identifying necessary activities to ensure the flight worthiness of our stages regarding thermal aspects whether they be simulations and/or testsDefine the necessary methods and tools in order to perform the required calculations whether they be analytical or numerical; or contribute to this activityBenchmark, choose, purchase and support the installation of necessary numerical tools to perform required simulations; or contribute to these activitiesCalculate the thermal environment (radiative, convective and conductive) in stage cavities or on stage structures during all flight phases whether they be on ground, in atmospheric flight or ballistic phasesDefine test objectives, define measurement plans and identify necessary sensors, contribute to the elaboration of test campaigns, perform test predictions and test exploitationsAssess the compatibility of stage equipment to the thermal environment and in case of incompatibility propose solutions to solve the issues (design modifications, additional tests, reduction of calculation conservatisms)Size thermal protections and determine possible thermal protection materials and technologiesSize conditioning systemsSupport treatment of production anomalies on thermal regulation systemsPerform flight simulations and flight exploitations Specific competences & abilities:Strong knowledge and experience in thermal engineering, prior experience appreciatedKnowledge and experience of launch vehicles or aerospace/aeronautics vehicles is appreciatedExperience with thermal modelling toolsExperience with programming languages (Python, VBA)Knowledge on thermal management and thermal protection technologiesEnglish level sufficient to read and write technical documentation, to perform oral technical presentation and to interact on technical topics Qualification:Engineering degree (+5 years post-Baccalaureate) ideally specialized in thermal engineering Working at MaiaSpaceYou will be joining a friendly multi-disciplinary team, comprised of multi-skilled people, following Agile and Scrum methodologies.
