Research Engineer in Ironmaking Digitalization ArcelorMittal, the world’s largest steel producer, is seeking a Research Engineer focused on ironmaking digitalization. Company Overview ArcelorMittal operates over 125,000 talent worldwide, dedicated to innovation and sustainability in steel manufacturing. Our Global R&D team of 1,650 researchers across 14 centers continuously improves steel quality, reduces carbon emissions, and optimizes costs. Responsibilities Lead R&D projects focused on ironmaking process optimization and decarbonization. Develop and propose new process‑simulation models (CFD, DEM, machine learning) aligned with plant needs. Adapt and improve existing models, and train end‑users to maximize operational efficiency, extend campaign life, and reduce CO₂ emissions. Define and manage R&D projects supporting ArcelorMittal’s industrial facilities to achieve technical, economic, and decarbonization goals. Suggest innovative operating conditions for Blast Furnace and DRI processes to reduce carbon footprint (electrification, H₂, biomass, CCSU, etc.). Conduct trials at ArcelorMittal plants, build laboratory test rigs, and design new industrial test protocols. Communicate and disseminate results to internal and external audiences. Qualifications Master’s or PhD in Metallurgical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or related discipline. Experience in numerical modeling (CFD, DEM), machine learning, data science, and programming (Python, C++, etc.). Solid knowledge of heat & mass transfer, thermodynamics, and fluid mechanics. Familiarity with primary steelmaking processes is a strong asset. Fluent in English and willing to travel worldwide. Project management skills and excellent oral and written communication.
