Our client is creating the future of tissue reconstruction. Their team pushes the limits every day to design next-generation products based on their platform of biomorphic programmable polymers. They are disrupting the field of surgery, both open and minimally invasive, to positively impact the lives of patients. Our client is on the verge of commercializing its first product, in the USA in 2025, and they are looking to strengthen their team with an experienced cross-functional program leader to support this critical next stage for the company. The Director, Product Management is a senior strategic leadership position responsible for driving and coordinating all team activities from pipeline R&D through to commercialization activities.

This role requires a strong leader who can effectively manage cross-functional teams without direct line management authority, ensuring that all stakeholders are aligned and focused on achieving the company’s strategic objectives. The role will serve as the key point of accountability for the strategy, budget, timeline, and overall execution, working closely with internal teams and external partners to deliver market-leading products.

The role will report to the VP of Portfolio Strategy. The position is based in Paris and regular cross-Atlantic travel will be required.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Accountability: Serve as the single point of accountability for the strategy, budget, timeline, and execution of the portfolio.
  2. Strategic Vision: Develop and refine the long-term strategic vision for the franchise, ensuring alignment with the overall corporate strategy. This would involve setting short and long-term goals for the franchise and leading efforts to achieve these targets.
  3. Leadership and Influence: Provide insights and recommendations on the overall direction of the franchise including pipeline investments and expansion opportunities.
  4. Decision-Making: Lead the decision-making process, including investment decisions, leveraging insights from functional experts and market intelligence.
  5. Stakeholder Management: Manage internal and external stakeholders and be the central connection point between R&D and commercial functions, incorporating customer and market feedback from the launch back into development decisions. Create integrated product development plans that align with business objectives and differentiate from competitor products.
  6. Project Strategy Communication: Lead and communicate the project development strategy at governance meetings. Organize and lead quarterly business review meetings and cross-functional team meetings.
  7. Risk Management: Guide the global project team in effectively managing, mitigating, and communicating risks. Monitor emerging data and pivot strategies as necessary.
Team Leadership:
  1. Create a shared sense of purpose, inspire and energize others.
  2. Coach project teams towards successful issue resolution and decision-making and focus the team on the right activities at the right time.
  3. Serve as a leader and key point of contact to drive efficient operation of the project team, including overall plans, priorities, budget, and risk management.
  4. Identify synergies that cut across programs and opportunities for driving portfolio-level efficiencies at the company.
Qualifications and Skills:

Required:

  1. Bachelor’s degree in technical discipline required; Advanced degree (PhD, MBA, MD, MS) highly preferred.
  2. Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience, some of which in the medical device industry across various functional areas including commercial and R&D.
  3. Strong expertise in Class II / Class III medical device launches, preferably in the US market.
  4. Leadership Skills: Demonstrated experience in leading and motivating teams in a matrixed environment.
  5. Collaboration: Proven record of cultivating and managing internal and external cross-functional collaborations.
  6. Influencing Skills: Demonstrated success in influencing colleagues and senior leaders across various departments.
  7. Communication: Excellent communication, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  8. Adaptability: Ability to work effectively in a dynamic and fast-paced environment.

Desired:

  1. Experience working in a start-up environment during the commercialization phase.
  2. Experience in a franchise/business leadership role in Pharma or MedTech.
