Contract duration : 12 months

Main activities :

  • Conducting ethnographic fieldwork in Subotica and other relevant locations in Serbia
  • Analysing the transformation of artistic canons and cultural heritage in the context of contemporary social, cultural, and political transformations in Eastern Europe
  • Collecting and analysing oral testimonies, public discourse, archival materials, textual, audio-visual, and performative materials
  • Organizing and conducting participatory research activities in collaboration with other researchers, artists, cultural practitioners, and local communities
  • Developing and applying interdisciplinary methodologies combining sociology, anthropology, heritage studies, artistic practice, and research on social and cultural transformations in Eastern Europe
  • Participating in the organization of academic seminars, workshops, public lectures, exhibitions, and artistic performances in France and Serbia
  • Coordinating collaboration between French and Serbian researchers, artists, cultural public bodies and partner institutions
  • Participating in research team meetings and project coordination activities
  • Producing academic publications, reports, cultural policy recommendations, and other project outputs
  • Presenting research findings at international conferences and professional events
  • Mediating to favour changes in cultural policies

Other duties of the position :

  • Participating in scientific and cultural mediation activities targeting broader audiences
  • Contributing to the activities of the research unit and international academic networks
  • Supporting the organization of guest lectures, workshops, and mobility programmes for researchers and artists

Special conditions of exercise :

  • Long-term fieldwork activities in Serbia, particularly in Subotica and other relevant locations
  • Professional travel between France and Serbia for research activities, project coordination, and the organization of academic and cultural events
  • Flexible working hours in accordance with the requirements of field research and public engagement activities

Required transferable skills :

  • Proven knowledge in the fields : Sociology of culture, Cultural heritage, Anthropology, Sociology of politics, Studies of nationalism, as well as research experience in the analysis of the social and cultural context of post-socialist Eastern European countries and contemporary Serbia. Experience in projects or researches related to cultural policies, as well as active participation in academic and conferences, is highly desirable.
  • English language: good oral and written comprehension

Know-how :

  • Knowledge of research methodology
  • Independent planning and implementation of theoretical and field research
  • Analysis of qualitative data and cultural materials and practices
  • Management of research and international projects and coordination of cooperation between different actors, organization of scientific and cultural events
  • Writing scientific publications, reports and project documentation
  • Development of cultural mediation strategies and public communication of research
  • Work in international and interdisciplinary teams.
