Software Engineering Manager – Container and Virtualisation InfrastructureCanonical is a leading provider of open source software and operating systems to the global enterprise and technology markets. The company is founder‑led, profitable and growing with over 1200 colleagues across 75+ countries.Our mission is to build a next‑generation private cloud infrastructure using KVM, Ceph and SDN to create a data centre‑scale cloud that ’just works’ for edge and core enterprise deployments.We are looking for an engineering manager with experience in high‑quality micro‑service architectures and leadership, who also has deep familiarity with Linux kernel, virtualization, storage and networking.Location: Remote – available in EMEA and the Americas.What you will focus onLead a remote team of engineersDevelop talent through coaching, mentoring and hands‑on career developmentSet and manage expectations with other engineering teams, senior management and external stakeholdersAdvocate and advance modern software development practicesParticipate in engineering processes through code and architectural reviewEngage with teams at Canonical, the open source community and partnersWork from home with occasional global travel (4–6 weeks per year)What we are looking for in youDeep understanding of modern Linux cloud computing technologies (networking, storage, containers, Kubernetes)Track record of developing and growing peopleStrong focus on delivery of high‑quality software on timeBachelor’s or equivalent in Computer Science, STEM or related fieldExcellent written and verbal technical communication skillsProgramming experience in C and/or GoWhat we offer youDistributed work environment with twice‑yearly in‑person team sprintsLearning and development budget of USD 2,000 per yearAnnual compensation review and performance‑driven bonusRecognition rewards, annual holiday leave, maternity and paternity leaveEmployee Assistance ProgrammePriority Pass and travel upgrades for long‑haul company eventsCanonical is an equal‑opportunity employer.
