Designing and maintaining open-source survey infrastructure for scalable, secure, and flexible data collectionPosition OverviewWe are seeking a Survey Platform Engineer to lead the deployment, configuration, and maintenance of open-source online questionnaire tools, with a primary focus on LimeSurvey. The role involves integrating survey platforms into broader data pipelines, ensuring accessibility, scalability, and data privacy, while enabling teams to easily design, distribute, and analyze survey instruments for research and operational needs.Key ResponsibilitiesSurvey Platform ManagementDeploy and maintain online survey systems using open-source tools such as LimeSurveyConfigure custom themes, question types, and multilingual support for diverse survey needsManage platform upgrades, security patches, user roles, and access controlsMonitor platform health, performance, and availability in cloud or on-prem environmentsEnable internal teams to design advanced surveys using logic flows, quotas, validation rules, and conditional branchingStandardize survey templates and question banks to promote reuse and consistencySupport import/export of questionnaires using LimeSurveys structure (LSS) and JSON APIsAssist with UX optimization for mobile, low-bandwidth, and multilingual contextsIntegration & AutomationIntegrate survey tools with existing data infrastructure (databases, APIs, metadata catalogs)Automate data export and transformation workflows into downstream analytics platformsSet up webhooks and APIs to trigger events (e.g., email notifications, status updates)Develop scripts and middleware for secure data ingestion and pseudonymizationData Governance & ComplianceEnsure compliance with data protection regulations (e.g., GDPR) in survey data handlingImplement survey-level access permissions and anonymization strategiesMaintain audit logs and platform monitoring for transparency and reliabilityDevelop and enforce policies for consent collection, data storage, and retentionRequired QualificationsTechnical Skills6+ years experience administering and customizing LimeSurvey or similar open-source survey platformsFamiliarity with survey logic, branching, token-based participation, and multilingual designUnderstanding of APIs (REST/JSON) for data access and external system integrationInfrastructure & SecurityExperience deploying web applications in Linux-based environments (e.g., Apache, Nginx)Working knowledge of databases (MySQL, PostgreSQL) used by survey platformsFamiliarity with containerization (Docker) and CI/CD for platform deploymentUnderstanding of web security principles (HTTPS, authentication, input validation)Preferred QualificationsDegree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Survey Methodology, or related fieldExperience working in research, public health, education, or statistics-related environmentsKnowledge of survey metadata standards (DDI) or data collection frameworks (ODK, KoboToolbox)Experience with multilingual survey delivery, accessibility standards, and UX testingContributions to open-source projects or plugins related to survey platforms #J-18808-Ljbffr
