No Offer Description Biomolecular condensates have recently emerged as fundamental in cell biology, complementing membrane-bound organelles in the organization of cellular functions. Biomolecular condensates are mesoscopic membrane-less organelles that allow the dynamic orchestration of biochemical reactions by restricting them to a confined space. Cytoplasmic RNA-protein (RNP) condensates are a class of biomolecular condensates, classically described as hubs for RNA regulation. Most RNP condensates are composed of heterogeneous immiscible phases, but how this feature contributes to their biological functions remained largely unexplored. Using germ granules in Drosophila embryos, an outstanding model of RNP condensates, we recently demonstrated the functional compartmentalization of germ granules, translational repression and activation taking place in two distinct phases. The project aims to unravel the interconnection between biomolecular condensates and the surrounding cellular environment. By combining advanced imaging with innovative optogenetic approaches to manipulate organelle subcellular localization or actin dynamics, the candidate will investigate the impact of mitochondrial activity and the actin network on germ granule functional organization.
