Strategy Officer

This is a fixed-term appointment with an initial duration of 4 years. Depending upon performance and organisational needs the appointment may be extended up to a possible maximum duration of 8 years. Any appointment to this position will begin no earlier than 1 January 2026. Location ESA Headquarters Paris France Description Strategy Officer Strategy Coordination Division Strategy Department Directorate for Strategy Legal and External Affairs. Duties Under the direct authority of the Head of the Strategy Coordination Division (SLE-SA) you will : be responsible for developing methodologies and processes for implementing the strategy of the organisation in accordance with ESAs Long-Term Plan (LTP) ensuring that decisions and strategies support the organisations mission and objectives; support liaising and establishing strategy coordination across ESA directorates; support the Head of Strategy Coordination with strategic analysis evaluation and evolution of ESAs legal framework administrative structures programmes and financial planning as part of your strategy coordination responsibilities; support monitoring of the Agencys performance and the implementation of ESA Strategy 2040; support the preparation of space-related background and strategic policy papers; support internal and external reporting and the presentation of results and achievements. Additional requirements An engineering or scientific background as well as good knowledge of European space strategies and of the space sector is required including broad knowledge of space programmes policy development performance monitoring and strategy implementation processes. You should also have : the ability to coordinate drive performance and foster cooperation within and across teams throughout the organisation; demonstrated excellent leadership relationship management and communication skills both oral and written; excellent cognitive analytical delegation planning and organisational skills with strong and proven result orientation; the ability to anticipate problems solve complex issues and relate situations to their context; the ability to reach solution-oriented pragmatic and timely decisions of a high standard and with integrity as well as the ability to support others (team members upper management and other stakeholders) in this process; a good understanding of software development practices. However if the selected candidate has less than four years of relevant professional experience following the completion of the masters degree the position may be filled at A1 level.
