What you will do

The Business Development Specialist is responsible for driving revenue growth across France by developing new business opportunities and expanding existing customer relationships within the specialty healthcare and life sciences logistics sector. This field-based role combines business development and account management responsibilities, with approximately 80% of working time dedicated to customer-facing activities. The successful candidate will manage an assigned portfolio of customers while actively identifying, acquiring, and developing new business opportunities throughout the French market. The role requires a proactive mindset, with a strong sense of ownership for the assigned territory. The successful candidate will be expected to identify opportunities, bring forward ideas, challenge conventional approaches, and contribute to the continuous development of local business strategies. While comprehensive support, coaching, and resources will be provided, the individual is expected to take accountability for territory performance and proactively drive business growth. Frequent travel throughout France is required.

Responsibilities

  • Identify, acquire, and develop new business opportunities within the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, healthcare, clinical research, and related sectors.
  • Develop and execute territory sales plans to increase market presence and achieve revenue growth objectives.
  • Build and maintain a robust pipeline through prospecting, networking, market research, referrals, and industry engagement.
  • Conduct customer presentations, solution-based discussions, and commercial negotiations to secure new business.
  • Represent World Courier at customer meetings, industry events, conferences, and networking activities.
  • Proactively identify new opportunities, market segments, and innovative approaches to grow business within the assigned territory.
  • Manage and grow an assigned portfolio of existing customers.
  • Build long-term relationships with key stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Identify opportunities for cross-selling and upselling across the World Courier service portfolio.
  • Maintain high levels of customer satisfaction and proactively address customer needs to support retention and growth.
  • Analyze sales performance, pipeline activity, market trends, customer requirements, and competitor activities to identify growth opportunities and define territory priorities.
  • Translate data and market insights into actionable business strategies and growth plans.
  • Develop and execute strategic initiatives to maximize territory performance and achieve commercial objectives.
  • Gather and share market insights to support business strategy and service development.
  • Maintain awareness of relevant industry regulations, quality standards, and logistics requirements affecting customers.
  • Collaborate closely with Operations, Customer Service, Quality, and other internal teams to develop and implement customer solutions.
  • Support tender processes, proposals, pricing activities, contract discussions, and customer onboarding.
  • Maintain accurate customer information, sales activity records, forecasts, and pipeline updates within CRM systems.
  • Work effectively across functions to ensure successful execution of commercial strategies and customer initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Sales, Logistics, Supply Chain, Life Sciences, Healthcare, or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
  • Experience in business development, sales, account management, or a related commercial role.
  • Demonstrated success in generating new business and achieving sales objectives.
  • Experience managing customer relationships and developing existing accounts.
  • Ability to analyze commercial data, identify trends, and translate insights into business actions.
  • Strong ability to build relationships with senior stakeholders and decision-makers.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout France.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Fluent French and professional English, both written and spoken.
  • Minimum skills required: Strong prospecting, business development, and lead generation capabilities.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, negotiation, and relationship-management skills.
  • Strong commercial awareness and customer-focused mindset.
