About the Payment Squad The Payment Squad is responsible for designing, implementing, running, and monitoring all payment services for BlaBlaCar, incoming payments from passengers (paying), outgoing payments to drivers (payout), and the management of user wallets for all our members worldwide. The scope covers the complete payment lifecycle—including purchases, refunds, disputes, and chargebacks—and ensures the integrity of our financial data by reconciling our internal systems with our Payment Service Providers (PSPs). This mission applies to every country and every supply for which we process payments. Your mission As Engineering Manager of the Payment Squad, your mission is to lead a team of about 10 frontend and backend engineers to build and run a scalable and reliable payment platform for the entire payment lifecycle. To achieve your mission, you and your team will work with a Product Manager and experts from Fraud, Customer Service, Finance, Legal, and Security teams. The role will be reporting to the VP of Engineering, OTA. Your responsibilities Engineering Leadership: Act as the main engineering advisor to the Product Manager and business stakeholders, participating in the definition of the squad’s objectives and long-term technical roadmap Delivery Management: Facilitate the planning and delivery of complex projects (paying/payout flows, reconciliation engines, wallet management) while ensuring performance, stability, and long-term scalability Stakeholder Management: Collaborate with Fraud, Customer Service, Finance, Legal, Security, and external PSPs to align technical solutions with compliance, fraud prevention, and business needs People Management: Recruit, inspire, and grow your team of engineers through mentorship, career development, and regular feedback Operational Excellence: Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement, ensuring the team leverages modern tools (like AI-driven acceleration) to maintain high productivity and quality Your qualifications Management Experience: A confirmed experience in a management position with proven people management skills Technical Background: Experience in building reliable, scalable, and secure consumer-facing products, ideally with knowledge across backend (Java, Spring) and frontend (Kotlin, Swift, React, TypeScript) stacks Communication: Strong leadership and communication skills in English, with the ability to bridge the gap between technical constraints and business/compliance requirements Problem-Solving: A track record of "getting things done" and the ability to take a step back to prioritize added-value tasks in a high-stakes environment Agile Expertise: Experience in managing development processes using agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban Domain Expertise: Prior experience with payment systems, or complex transactional environments is a significant plus What we have to offer Hybrid status for this role : 2-3 days at the Office 4 additional weeks on top of legal maternity/paternity leaves 50% healthcare coverage (Alan) Financial support for home office equipment Minimum 25 days holiday per year Local meal plan policy (Swile card) 50% transportation paid (Forfait Mobilité Durable) Free unlimited carpooling & bus rides Personal growth via trainings, mentorship, and internal mobility programs Employee Stock ownership plan Regular team building events 1 day off per year to test our product Hiring process 30-min interview with Chloé Friess, our Talent Acquisition Manager - career path, growth mindset 45-min interview with Gilles LABORDERIE, VP Engineering - delivery management, people management, agility, and teamwork 45-min interview with Ashley Yeh, Product Manager - product & design mindset, business prioritization30-min skip-level with Nicolas SALVY, CTO - culture fit and career aspirations BlaBlaCar is an equal opportunity employer.
