Role & Responsibilities You will build and maintain reliable, high-performance backend services and APIs that power Morpho’s consumer and business-critical features. Depending on your experience level, this role may include ownership of entire backend domains, mentoring other engineers, and driving cross-team impact. Responsibilities Design, build and operate backend services in TypeScript/Node and GraphQL, delivering reliable, low-latency user-facing experiences. Model data, evolve relational schemas (PostgreSQL) and optimise for correctness, performance and maintainability. Collaborate with frontend, product, protocol, risk, and security teams to ship end-to-end outcomes. Monitor, troubleshoot and improve production systems: focusing on observability, incident response, reliability, and operational excellence. Simplify systems: reduce complexity, pay down tech debt, standardise patterns. (For more senior levels) Drive cross-team initiatives, sponsor technical design, mentor engineers, and become the go-to owner for critical backend domains. What Success Looks Like First 30 days: Ramp up on our APIs, data flows and deployment practices; ship a safe, user-visible improvement. Establish clear async communication and collaboration habits. Within ~4-6 months: Own delivery of scoped features end to end; propose and land architecture improvements. Improve reliability through enhanced observability, testing and incident management. Within ~12 months: Become a trusted owner of a key backend domain with a multi-quarter roadmap. Consistently deliver high-impact features, resolve complex cross-team problems, and help raise the team’s standard on reliability, performance and operational excellence. Competencies & Traits Thrives in a fast-changing remote-first environment and picks up new context quickly. Strong bias for action, ownership mindset and first-principles problem-solving. Excellent written and async communication across time zones; team-first collaboration and low-ego approach. Genuine curiosity for crypto/Web3 ecosystems and continuous learning mindset. Must-have Experience Senior Level: ~3-5 years building backend systems, working with GraphQL APIs and relational databases (especially PostgreSQL). Staff Level: ~8-10+ years of backend development, leading cross-team designs and shipping large ambiguous projects; deep strength in data modelling, performance optimisation and production operations.
