Project Manager (Green Finance) – Kenya Buildings Decarbonization Finance AcceleratorBACKGROUNDThe Kenya Buildings Decarbonization Finance Accelerator Project is a critical initiative aimed at unlocking finance for the implementation of Kenya’s National Decarbonization Roadmap for buildings. This project, supported by GBPN in collaboration with the Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development and a broad coalition of partners targeted funding for delivery of these goals. To ensure the successful delivery of this complex, multi-stakeholder project, GBPN is seeking a highly skilled Project Manager with a strong background in Green Finance. This role will be responsible for the overall leadership, strategic coordination, and day-to-day management of the project, ensuring alignment with the Key Results (KRs) and the effective engagement of partners.THE OPPORTUNITYGBPN is seeking a Project Manager to provide strategic leadership, coordination, and management for the Kenya Buildings Decarbonization Finance Accelerator Project.The Project Manager will be the operational lead, working closely with the GBPN Africa Team, the Coalition stakeholders, and key national and international partners. The role is central to driving the project’s activities, managing stakeholder relationships, ensuring timely delivery of high-quality outputs, and ultimately achieving the objective of scaling accessible, structured finance for low-emission buildings in Kenya.Project Focus: Kenya (with potential for South-South knowledge exchange)Place of work: Remote, with a strong preference for candidates based in or with deep experience in Kenya/East Africa.Anticipated start of work: February 15, 2026Duration: 14 monthsExpected Input: 5 working days per monthQUALIFICATIONSWe are seeking an individual with proven experience in project management, green/climate finance, and the built environment sector, preferably within the African context.All applicants must fulfill the following criteria:Project & Stakeholder Management:Minimum 5 years of experience in managing complex, multi-stakeholder projects in the development, climate action, or finance sectors.Proven track record in stakeholder engagement, coalition building, and managing high-level relationships with government, financial institutions, and private sector actors.Green/Climate Finance Expertise:Demonstrable experience and knowledge in climate finance, sustainable finance instruments, investment prospectus development, and funding strategy formulation.Understanding of financial mechanisms relevant to buildings (e.g., green mortgages, construction loans, de-risking instruments) and the broader climate finance landscape (public, private, philanthropic).Sectoral Knowledge:Strong understanding of the buildings and construction sector, decarbonization pathways, and related policy environments.Familiarity with Kenya’s policy landscape, particularly in housing, construction, and climate action, is a significant advantage.Skills:Excellent organizational, strategic planning, and reporting skills.Outstanding communication, facilitation, and interpersonal skills.Ability to work independently, solve problems proactively, and deliver high-quality outputs under tight deadlines.Fluency in English is required; knowledge of Kiswahili is an asset.SCOPE OF WORK, DELIVERABLES & REPORTINGTaskDescription1. Project Leadership & Strategic CoordinationProvide overall project leadership. Ensure strategic alignment of all activities with Objective 3 and its Key Results (KRs). Coordinate the work of the UHAI Coalition and all partners. Approved Inception Report and detailed 14-month work plan. Monthly strategic progress reports.2. Deliverable Management for Key ResultsFor KR 3.1: Lead the co-creation, drafting, stakeholder validation, and finalization of the nationally endorsed “Kenya Buildings Decarbonization Funding Strategy”.For KR 3.2: Oversee the development of a compelling Investment Prospectus that translates technical targets into financial opportunities. Final, validated Funding Strategy document. Final, polished Investment Prospectus.3. Coalition & Stakeholder ManagementAct as the secretariat lead for the Coalition. Organize and facilitate coalition meetings, technical workshops, and high-level events (Launch, Validation). Manage communication and secure commitments from partners (developers, financiers). Coalition meeting reports & TOR. Partner commitment tracker. Log of stakeholder engagements.4. Knowledge Exchange & AdvocacyCoordinate South-South and global knowledge exchange activities with partners (IFC, WRI, etc.). Support the high-profile launch of the Strategy and Prospectus. Contribute to advocacy efforts to showcase the project. Knowledge exchange session reports. Contributed inputs to launch event materials.5. Monitoring, Reporting & Risk ManagementMonitor project milestones, budget, and risks. Prepare comprehensive donor reports and ensure all project documentation is properly archived. Monthly and Quarterly progress reports. Final project report. Updated risk register.6. Technical Oversight & Quality AssuranceProvide technical oversight on green finance components. Ensure all outputs are of high quality, data-driven, and align with national priorities and international best practices.
