JOB DESCRIPTION This remote‑friendly position is for a Legal Counsel who will navigate the complexities of contracts, regulations, and risk management to support Joko’s growth. The role reports directly to the Head of Legal and is part of the Legal team at the heart of Joko’s operations. WHAT YOU WILL DO As Legal Counsel you will be responsible for a polyvalent, multi‑skilled, and highly challenging scope of work. RESPONSIBILITIES Partner with the Head of Legal to ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations in France and other potential markets. Take preventive action to avoid litigation and collaborate on any litigation that may arise. Draft or review contracts for all aspects of Joko’s activity (employees, freelancers, merchant partners, suppliers, terms and conditions, etc.). Co‑ordinate GDPR compliance with the Head of Legal, our DPO and Product team to implement privacy‑by‑design and improve existing processes (data treatment register, privacy policy, IT security routines, etc.). Oversee corporate law events, including BSPCE allocations and exercises, general shareholders’ assemblies, board meetings, and cap‑table management. Maintain strong IP management procedures in collaboration with the Head of Legal and external advisors (domain names, trademarks, competitive intelligence). Support the Head of Legal in coordinating the legal aspect of the company’s international expansion, especially in the US. PERKS Flexible remote (for specific fully‑remote positions). If you live in Paris, you can work from the office or from home with no constraints. Outside Paris, you receive a coworking budget. Work from anywhere (full‑time only): full‑time employees can work from most countries for up to 3 months per year. After 4 years, spend 1 month in our New York office. PREFERRED EXPERIENCE Education: Master’s degree from a Tier 1 law university with a specialization in private law; bar pass is a plus. Experience: at least 2 years of experience as a lawyer, ideally 5 years and experience in a top law firm. Knowledge/experience in contract negotiation, GDPR and personal data management or corporate law; adept at preventing and handling legal litigations. Languages: fluent in French and English (written and spoken). Communication: excellent analytical and synthesis skills; writing abilities. Project management: able to lead a project independently, break down complex problems, hit milestones. Attention to detail: ability to spot flaws and produce perfect written documents. Mindset: entrepreneurial, likes challenges, hands‑on. RECRUITMENT PROCESS Intro call: quick screening with the hiring manager or recruiter.
