Company Overview
Synchrotron SOLEIL is a premier French facility dedicated to synchrotron radiation research, situated on the Saclay plateau near Paris. This multidisciplinary research laboratory is committed to advancing scientific knowledge through innovative research programs utilizing synchrotron radiation, developing state-of-the-art instrumentation on beamlines, and providing access to these resources for the global scientific community. Established in 2008, SOLEIL serves thousands of researchers annually across diverse fields including physics, biology, chemistry, astrophysics, and environmental sciences.
Position Title: Magnetics Specialist
Role Overview
In response to the dynamic international landscape and the need for scientific and technological advancements to tackle significant societal challenges, Synchrotron SOLEIL is initiating a comprehensive upgrade of its accelerators and beamlines, known as Soleil II. This project will involve the installation of over a thousand new magnets, including permanent magnets. The Magnetics Specialist will be an integral part of the Magnetics and Insertions team, focusing on the magnets associated with the accelerators (linac, booster, transfer line, storage ring) and magnetic insertions (such as undulators and wigglers).
Key Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the Magnetics Specialist will encompass two primary areas:
I. Development, Optimization, and Assessment of Magnetic Devices: The specialist will engage in the construction and evaluation of magnetic devices. Initially, they will contribute to the measurement and adjustment of the ring's magnets, followed by the development of systems utilizing permanent magnets. This role will also involve the construction and enhancement of various types of magnetic insertions over several years, utilizing a range of magnetic characterization tools (e.g., Helmholtz coil, magnetometer, Hall probe, taut wire, vibrating wire, pulsed).
II. Upkeep of Operational Magnetic Equipment: The specialist will be responsible for the maintenance of the equipment managed by the team on the accelerators, ensuring preventive maintenance, necessary repairs, and optimal functionality (including control, fault diagnostics, maintenance, and repair). They will also participate in on-call duties to minimize equipment downtime and assist in the maintenance and enhancement of the laboratory's measurement devices.
