Job Responsibilities

SPIE Services Nigeria Limited is actively seeking a SMART Room Maintenance Engineer to enhance its operational capabilities in Nigeria. The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Offering expert technical and engineering support to site teams regarding the operation and upkeep of plant and equipment, ensuring adherence to the highest safety protocols and minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Overseeing daily maintenance tasks within the Akpo SMART Room, ensuring effective communication to facilitate ongoing and upcoming site activities.
  • Providing direct technical assistance to site maintenance staff, including reviewing work order backlogs and validating daily work orders on SAP (UNISUP).
  • Guiding work direction and technical oversight, monitoring project progress, allocating resources, and establishing priorities and timelines.
  • Reviewing and preparing planned maintenance schedules, aligning available resources with upcoming monthly preventive maintenance activities.
  • Leading the monthly preventive maintenance review process.
  • Analyzing monthly maintenance reports and developing action plans to ensure performance targets are met.
  • Acting as the primary interface for the site Head of Maintenance to support critical operational activities.
  • Providing initial troubleshooting support and guidance to the site team during fault diagnosis, repair strategies, vendor requirements, and material availability.
  • Assessing the status of offline equipment and ensuring the readiness of standby machinery.
  • Monitoring, reporting, and mitigating maintenance-related production losses.
  • Managing the backlog of maintenance tasks.
  • Recommending preferred contractors and coordinating vendor activities, materials, and equipment for both planned and unplanned maintenance, while overseeing manpower utilization and contractor performance.
  • Collaborating with the maintenance planner to identify work that can be addressed in a campaign-style approach when critical equipment is offline.
  • Advising on maintenance-related shutdown reports to ensure all necessary actions are documented and executed.
  • Cultivating and maintaining productive relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinating with Tier 2 and Discipline managers for technical and contractual support.
  • Proactively monitoring and analyzing plant and equipment performance using Smart Signal diagnostic tools, providing insights to management, and identifying opportunities for enhancing equipment and production performance.
  • Continuously collecting and contextualizing vital performance data to predict potential failures, thereby improving production and equipment availability.
  • Optimizing failure thresholds for operational equipment based on real-time data from SMART Room dashboards.
  • Contributing to the two-week look-ahead planning process in collaboration with the SMART Room Planner.
  • Tracking and reporting on all safety-critical elements on site, including the weekly Safety Outlook and Inhibitions report, along with summary presentations for performance meetings.
  • Partnering with the SMART Room Production Engineer to alternate the preparation of weekly reports on GHG emissions and energy efficiency.
  • Assisting in the formulation of strategies for the maintenance, inspection, and operation of plant and equipment to ensure compliance with verification standards.
  • Fostering strong working relationships with site personnel through effective communication and regular engagement.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, though other engineering disciplines may be considered.
  • At least 5 years of experience in the maintenance of oil and gas processing facilities, including rotating, lifting, instrumentation, and electrical equipment.
  • Strong understanding of operational site activities.
  • Familiarity with onshore and offshore process and production systems.
  • Experience working in offshore environments is advantageous.
  • Background in collaborative work settings is a plus.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to propose innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interface management skills are essential for effective teamwork.
  • A strong reliability-centered approach to maintenance follow-up is required.
