Master's or Doctorate in energy or power systems with 6 to 10 years of relevant industry experience.
Familiarity with various European and/or US power market frameworks.
Proficient in Python, alongside modeling and coding methodologies.
Strong understanding of renewable energy system modeling software (Plexos, PowerFactory, etc.). Proficiency in English and French is essential.
Responsibilities
You will engage in market modeling initiatives that are pivotal for the Branch, as the outcomes will influence Integrated Power strategy. Your models will facilitate long-term electricity price predictions and optimize our flexible assets across multiple European countries and operated markets in the USA. Your work will involve techno-economic modeling of energy systems for long-term electricity price forecasting and the strategic optimization of asset portfolios (including renewables and flexible assets). Key technical challenges include:
- Demand modeling with considerations such as weather sensitivity, sector-specific growth, and social behavior.
- Supply modeling by technology with specific assumptions regarding renewable penetration and hydro inflow-based models.
- Adjusting energy system modeling to reflect regulatory and market design changes.
- Developing and applying model reduction techniques to optimize simulation costs (e.g., nodal to zonal simplification, market perimeter reduction).
- Assisting in the creation of a power market roadmap for the Distributed Energy Resources (DER) program.
- Conducting industrial and scientific research on electricity market system modeling and optimization, identifying key challenges associated with the extensive development of DER projects within the power system.
- Collaborating with stakeholders across various levels (programs, business units, academia, etc.).
- Performing techno-economic studies to assess the viability and feasibility of DER projects, primarily involving batteries and electric vehicles (EVs).
- Contributing to the enhancement of team capabilities through training, workshops, and knowledge sharing.
