About the Energy Division
The Energy Division, a key component of the European Purchasing Organization at ArcelorMittal, is tasked with the acquisition of electricity, natural gas, and industrial gases (including oxygen, nitrogen, argon, and hydrogen). This division also spearheads energy initiatives for the organization, such as enhancing energy efficiency, developing power plants to utilize siderurgical gases, and pursuing renewable energy ventures.
Within this division, the Long-Term Contracts & Renewable Energy Projects team is dedicated to securing long-term bilateral contracts for electricity and natural gas, as well as fostering the procurement of renewable energy through Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs) and strategic partnerships.
Position Overview
The Renewable Energy Procurement Specialist will be instrumental in the Long-Term Contracts & Renewable Energy Projects team, concentrating on sourcing renewable energy and managing project development. This role encompasses leading negotiations for Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), coordinating renewable energy initiatives, and collaborating closely with both internal stakeholders and external suppliers.
Key Responsibilities
1. Energy Market Analysis:
- Perform comprehensive analyses of the renewable energy market, focusing on cost optimization and competitor strategies.
- Examine energy markets, regulations, and significant players specific to various countries.
- Formulate strategies for future supplier engagements.
2. Project Development and Procurement:
- Lead the negotiation processes for PPAs, including the development of strategies, conducting supplier meetings, and analyzing offers.
- Enhance business models and provide recommendations to support decision-making.
- Negotiate extensive contracts and assist in co-development initiatives for land utilization.
3. Coordination and Compliance:
- Collaborate with procurement and internal teams to advance strategies for renewable energy projects.
- Oversee the permitting processes for renewable energy installations.
- Ensure adherence to procurement policies and sustainability regulations.
- Prepare bid documentation (RFPs, RFQs) and assess supplier submissions.
- Monitor supplier performance and promote continuous improvement.
4. Stakeholder Engagement:
- Work alongside internal stakeholders (including sites, trading teams, corporate technical teams, finance, and legal) and external partners.
- Establish and nurture relationships with suppliers and developers.
- Facilitate the smooth permitting, installation, and operation of renewable energy systems.
Qualifications and Skills
Educational Background:
- Master's degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Energy Economics, or a related discipline.
Professional Experience:
- 1-3 years of experience in energy procurement, project management, or a related field, ideally within a utility, producer, or large energy consumer organization.
- Experience in managing comprehensive renewable energy projects from inception to completion.
Skills:
- Strong analytical capabilities and complex problem-solving skills, with the ability to construct business models (project financing, joint ventures, CAPEX projects).
- Exceptional communication, negotiation, and organizational abilities.
- Capacity to interact effectively in a multicultural environment and work independently.
- Fluency in English and proficiency in at least one other European language (German, French, or Spanish).
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); knowledge of VBA or R is advantageous.
- Familiarity with renewable energy and sustainability topics is preferred.
