Position Overview

The Investment Associate will assist CDPQ's ongoing initiatives towards its business goals by providing guidance on transaction execution based on the necessary risk and return, and by aiding in the post-investment management of CDPQ's assets in Europe. The Associate will also support the Directors in various research and strategic projects.

Key Responsibilities
  • Actively engage in the evaluation of investment prospects.
  • Create and assess comprehensive financial models, emphasizing critical aspects of the investment thesis, including conducting sensitivity analyses and reviewing financial forecasts and valuation assumptions.
  • Offer insights on valuations of potential investments utilizing appropriate methodologies (discounted cash flows, multiples, etc.).
  • Facilitate the coordination of thorough due diligence processes for investment opportunities.
  • Lead the preparation of authorization documents for new investment ventures.
  • Assist colleagues in negotiating transaction agreements and ownership structures.
  • Aid in the development of business and strategic plans.
  • Proactively monitor financial and operational metrics, as well as financial reports of portfolio companies.
  • Contribute to enhancing the portfolio's value by analyzing key industry trends and strategic issues affecting portfolio companies.
  • Prepare internal and external reports on portfolio companies.
  • Conduct thorough research on trends and fundamentals within the covered sector: actively follow market developments and gather information from relevant sources.
  • Produce detailed analyses of the infrastructure sector's primary challenges and recommend strategies for implementation.
  • Generate sectoral studies on potential target markets for development.
  • Develop effective tools for research and market monitoring.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, accounting, or engineering;
  • Master's degree in finance; an MBA, CFA, or CPA would be considered an asset;
  • Master's degree in engineering will be considered an asset;
  • Three (3) to five (5) years of experience in private equity, infrastructure, or investment banking;
  • Strong experience in financial analysis and modeling;
  • In-depth knowledge of and strong proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel and PowerPoint);
  • Proficiency in English and French, both spoken and written. Other European languages would be considered an asset.
