Project Overview
Imerys is undertaking a lithium mining project, the EMILI Project, at its Beauvoir site in Echassières, France. The project aims to produce 34,000 tonnes of lithium hydroxide per year for at least 25 years, with production expected to start in 2028.
The project schedule involves several stages, including the completion of the preliminary mine design, validation and testing of the overall process at the lab scale, characterization of the deposit, and construction of the industrial/demo pilot plant. The project will be executed in accordance with project requirements and company objectives, ensuring timely and cost-effective delivery.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will provide guidance and supervision to engineering and design companies engaged in the project. Key responsibilities include:
- Reviewing and approving technical specifications, contract specifications, calculations, reports, design criteria, and other documents produced by engineering contractors.
- Oversight of engineering contractors and specialized companies to ensure designs meet project, discipline, statutory regulations, good-practice, and company procedural requirements.
- Working closely with process and operation teams to define project control systems.
- Ensuring design completion as per assigned scope and ensuring designs produced are optimal in terms of maintainability, serviceability, equipment operating cost, and safe operation.
- Providing technical guidance to project staff on various aspects of design.
- Approving technical adjudications/recommendations for equipment and installation contracts done by engineering contractors.
- Reviewing and commenting on design documents and drawings from own discipline and from other disciplines.
- Comparing procurement costs against budget and providing feedback to project control.
- Estimating, controlling, and reviewing design scope changes.
- Providing feedback on the quality, use, and value of systems used in design.
- Attending shop inspection and factory acceptance tests and providing input into vendor's test documentation as required.
- Assisting with plant installation and commissioning.
- Liaising with site construction staff on technical queries and resolution of engineering design issues.
- Providing timely reports regarding all discussions held and progress made, ensuring all correspondence is recorded.
- Inputting into progress reports, including listing achievements and highlighting issues as required.
- Ensuring compliance and taking initiative for safety and environmental issues.
EHS Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for:
- Providing positive and demonstrated leadership on EHS issues within their area of operation.
- Reading, understanding, and implementing EHS policies and procedures.
- Promoting an enthusiastic EHS culture that delivers positive commitment to and engages all employees in continuous improvement in EHS performance.
Requirements
The successful candidate will have:
- BSc, BEng, or B.Tech in Engineering or National Diploma with a minimum of 10 years' experience.
- Minimum of 10 years' automation design experience in complex industrial installations and large capital projects.
- Highly developed knowledge of industrial automation and electrical systems and codes and norms in the European community and preferable in France.
- Good knowledge of Siemens automation products and Industry 4.0 would be a plus.
- Experience in project planning, execution, management, and communication with all stakeholders in large successful capital projects.
- Extensive experience in working with EPCM automation and electrical engineers.
- Must be knowledgeable about industry best practices.
- Recent experience managing automation and electrical engineering activities in large capital projects.
- Well-developed computer skills and knowledge of word, databases, spreadsheets, and discipline-related application software.
- Site experience – construction and commissioning.
Language and Leadership
The successful candidate will have:
- Languages: English (mandatory), French (preferable).
- Used to working in a multinational environment.
- Experience with projects executed in Europe is preferable.
- Team-oriented, dynamic, proactive, and adaptable.
- Skilled in communication, rigor, autonomous, leadership, and convincing skills.
- Highly motivated and results-focused with the ability to act with a high sense of urgency.
- Ability to operate and execute effectively in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities and challenging deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and interpersonal skills.
