The Energy Division within the European Purchasing Organization at ArcelorMittal is tasked with the acquisition of electricity, natural gas, and industrial gases, alongside the development of energy initiatives aimed at enhancing efficiency and advancing renewable energy projects. This includes carbon capture and utilization projects, which are pivotal to ArcelorMittal's commitment to achieving carbon neutrality by 2050.
As a member of this division, the Long-Term Contracts & Energy Projects team focuses on securing long-term bilateral contracts for Natural Gas and Electricity, fostering renewable sourcing through Power Purchase Agreements, on-site renewable generation, and strategic partnerships. The team also implements energy efficiency service contracts and aids in the valorization of off-gases and carbon capture utilization projects.
With the decarbonization strategy in Europe, there will be a significant rise in the demand for Electricity and Natural Gas, necessitating several TWh of consumption annually.
Key Responsibilities
- Analysis of Renewable Energy Markets
- Conduct cost analyses and provide support for optimizing energy consumption.
- Perform country analyses, including key players, market structure, and regulatory frameworks.
- Evaluate suppliers' future strategies.
- Monitor and analyze competitors' strategies.
- Sourcing and Project Development (contract negotiations, power plant initiatives)
- Lead negotiations by:
- Establishing negotiation strategies.
- Facilitating supplier meetings.
- Assessing proposals.
- Optimizing business models to challenge received quotes or in joint venture scenarios.
- Providing recommendations for decision-making.
- Negotiating comprehensive contracts.
- Support the deployment of co-development schemes for land valorization.
- For co-investment in renewable projects:
- Collaborate with M&A and partnership teams to assess investment opportunities.
- Lead negotiations for Power Purchase Agreements related to these investment projects.
- Act as the primary liaison with internal stakeholders (including sites, trading teams, corporate technical teams, finance, legal, etc.) and external suppliers or partners.
- Lead negotiations by:
- A minimum of 8 years of professional experience in the energy sector (utility, producer, or large energy consumer).
- A Master's degree in Engineering or Economics.
- Fluency in English and at least one additional European language (German, French, or Spanish).
- Experience in managing cross-functional projects.
- Dynamic, self-motivated, and proactive in taking initiatives.
- Strong analytical capabilities and proficiency in developing business models.
- Ability to engage effectively in a multicultural environment, demonstrating teamwork.
- Excellent communication and listening abilities.
- Strong commercial acumen.
- Robust organizational skills.
- Proficiency in Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint); knowledge of VBA or R is advantageous.
