Job Description:Join our team at INSA de LYON as a PhD Researcher in Materials Science and Engineering. We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to work on a project focused on the relationship between capture plant corrosion and solvent degradation in Carbon Capture and Storage (CCS) systems.
About the Project:The project is part of the EU-funded Marie Sklodowska-Curie Doctoral Researcher project "Material Science Innovation for Accelerated, Sustainable and Safe Implementation of Carbon Capture and Storage" (MISSION-CCS). The objective of the project is to develop a unique, material science-based, integrated approach to a comprehensive understanding of materials and solvent degradation mechanisms in the field of CCS.
Responsibilities:- Implement electrochemical impedance spectroscopy to identify corrosion kinetics and mechanisms for carbon steel across several amine-based solvent chemistries.
- Establish a link between degraded solvent chemistry and corrosivity for carbon steel.
- Utilize surface analysis techniques to link corrosion product structure-property-chemistry to corrosion suppression.
- Devise a methodology to 'tune' solvent chemistry to create protective corrosion products.
- Validate corrosion mitigation strategies at Pilot Scale.
- Dissemination of results and summarizing the findings from tasks 1 to 5 in a thesis.
The MATEIS laboratory is a Materials Science and Engineering laboratory at the crossroads of several disciplines (chemistry, physics, and mechanics). The CorrIS team focuses on the reactivity of surfaces and interfaces, the physicochemical and multifunctional properties of surfaces, and surface optimization.
Requirements:- Master's degree in Materials Sciences or Chemical engineering.
- Excellent electrochemistry/materials laboratory skills.
- Interest or experience in electrochemistry.
- Interest or experience in materials characterization.
- High level of motivation, responsibility, and flexibility.
- Strong motivation and good collaborative skills.
- Excellent English skills, written and spoken.
The position is a fixed-term position limited to a period of 3 years. The start date is 2 September 2024 or after agreement. The monthly salary starts at approximately €2840/month, with a mobility allowance of €440/month and a family allowance of €473/month (gross amount).
