Job Title
Product Owner
Business Context
The airline industry is currently experiencing a significant transformation in retailing to meet the evolving expectations of customers, which include efficiency in workflows, transparency in pricing, engagement through social networks, and personalized experiences. In this scenario, the Order Management System (OMS) plays a crucial role in realizing the full potential of this transformation. Our team, ORR-OST-OMS, is tasked with developing the Amadeus solution.
As part of the Order team, we contribute to the SCOOP initiative, which aims to:
- Establish and implement the foundational elements of the Order domain.
- Enhance the management of the entire order lifecycle.
- Facilitate the transition of airlines to Nevio.
All of this is achieved while ensuring technical sustainability and compliance with regulations within the order domain.
Role Overview
The Product Owner (PO) is an integral member of the Agile Team, responsible for defining user stories and prioritizing the Team Backlog to streamline the execution of program priorities while maintaining the conceptual and technical integrity of the Features or components for the team. The PO plays a vital role in maximizing the value delivered by the team and ensuring that user stories meet customer needs and adhere to the Definition of Done.
The PO acts as the customer representative, collaborating with Product Management and other stakeholders—including fellow POs—to define and prioritize stories in the Team Backlog. This collaboration ensures that the solution effectively addresses program priorities (Features and Enablers) while maintaining technical integrity.
We seek a Product Owner with either a functional or technical background, but most importantly, a strong interest in the vision and functional aspects of a product. The product owner is expected to actively contribute to the product in their area of expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
As part of the OMS team, you will engage in designing, developing, validating, and maintaining core components of the OMS, including:
- A central order system for managing order data and lifecycle, storage, and fulfillment.
- Integration with the NDC layer of the order suite via RTL backend.
- Collaboration with other suites necessary for handling orders: offer suite, revenue accounting, payment, operations suite, etc.
- Interaction with the PSS (Bimodal) to leverage all PSS capabilities for a seamless transition while introducing new functionalities via OMS.
The PO is responsible for:
Understanding, identifying, and defining customer needs:
- Translating the high-level vision from the Product Manager into detailed requirements, collaborating closely with various stakeholders, including non-customer stakeholders such as finance, security, operations, support, and audit.
- Consolidating and articulating business needs into new product concepts or enhancements, and working with Product Managers to develop user stories or features impacting the team backlog.
Contributing to the product vision and roadmap:
- Defining and continuously refining the product vision and business value in alignment with business owners, product managers, SAFe ART Product Management, other Product Owners, and agile teams.
Supporting the definition of product features (scoping):
- Leading the definition and prioritization of Features or user stories, based on customer needs and value, to deliver according to market and business requirements.
- Considering and prioritizing enabler work and sequencing the architectural runway in collaboration with Architects/Engineering.
- Collaborating with other teams across the organization to ensure coherent prioritization, product alignment, marketing, and user experience across various ARTs/Products/Groups.
Managing, prioritizing, and communicating the flow of work:
- Ensuring that the features and user stories backlogs are reprioritized before each release and increment planning session.
- Maintaining constant alignment and communication with respective agile counterparts and leadership teams.
- Conducting thorough analysis to ensure requirements are ready for development.
- Documenting, analyzing, tracing, prioritizing, and agreeing on requirements, then managing changes and communicating with relevant stakeholders.
- Participating in ongoing testing efforts.
Engaging in Agile events:
- Accepting stories prior to iteration/increment reviews.
- Actively participating in team coordination meetings, PO synchronization meetings, draft plan reviews, and management meetings.
- Contributing to System demos and Inspect & Adapt workshops if in SAFe.
- Participating in the Community of Practice for Product Owners.
Promoting the product:
- Providing key information and communicating the value of the product to define the Value proposition.
- Defining strategies as the product progresses through its lifecycle.
- Sharing content for product documentation, sales tools, and collateral.
- Creating standard and customized presentations, and demo scripts that showcase product value.
- Delivering presentations, demos, and familiarization sessions to customers and customer-facing teams.
- Participating in the preparation of key events to ensure successful product launches and follow-ups.
About the Ideal Candidate
Education:
- A degree in Computer Science or equivalent, or significant industry experience.
- Fluency in English.
We are looking for a Product Owner who:
- Possesses the necessary technical/functional knowledge and experience in their discipline, with an understanding of the Amadeus business and its relation to their area.
- Operates within existing procedures or guidelines and provides input to support/influence decisions in their area. Makes recommendations on new solutions and proposes improvements based on analysis of various information sources.
- Contributes to the product.
- Works with a moderate level of guidance and direction from their manager.
