Job Responsibilities

SPIE Services Nigeria Limited is actively seeking a SMART Room Maintenance Engineer to enhance its operational team in Nigeria. The key responsibilities include:

  • Deliver expert technical and engineering support to site teams regarding the operation and upkeep of equipment, ensuring adherence to the highest safety protocols and minimizing operational disruptions.
  • Oversee daily maintenance operations within the Akpo SMART Room, ensuring effective communication to facilitate ongoing and upcoming site activities.
  • Provide direct technical assistance to maintenance personnel, including reviewing work order backlogs and validating daily work orders in SAP (UNISUP).
  • Direct work efforts and provide technical oversight, monitoring project progress, allocating resources, and establishing priorities and timelines.
  • Ensure that planned maintenance schedules are reviewed and prepared, balancing available resources with upcoming monthly preventive maintenance tasks.
  • Lead the monthly preventive maintenance review process.
  • Analyze monthly maintenance reports and develop action plans to enhance performance tracking.
  • Act as the primary interface for the site Head of Maintenance to support critical operational activities.
  • Offer initial breakdown support and guidance to the site team during troubleshooting, repair strategies, vendor requirements, and material availability.
  • Assess the status of offline equipment and ensure that standby systems are operational.
  • Monitor, report, and mitigate maintenance-related production losses.
  • Manage the backlog of maintenance tasks.
  • Recommend preferred contractors and coordinate vendor engagements, materials, and equipment for both planned and unplanned activities, while overseeing manpower utilization, vendor performance, and expenditures. Participate in vendor audits as necessary.
  • Collaborate with the maintenance planner to identify tasks that can be executed in a campaign approach when critical equipment is offline.
  • Provide insights on shutdown reports from a maintenance viewpoint to ensure that necessary actions are taken and completed.
  • Cultivate and maintain effective relationships with both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Coordinate with Tier 2 and Discipline managers for technical and contractual support.
  • Continuously monitor and analyze equipment performance using Smart Signal diagnostic tools, providing feedback to management and identifying opportunities to enhance equipment and production performance.
  • Regularly gather and contextualize vital performance data to generate predictions for potential failures, improving production and equipment availability.
  • Optimize failure thresholds of operational equipment based on real-time data collected in the SMART Room dashboards.
  • Play a key role in the two-week look-ahead planning process (2WLAP) in collaboration with the SMART Room Planner.
  • Ensure follow-up and reporting on all safety-critical elements on site, including the weekly Safety Outlook and Inhibitions report, along with summary slides for performance meetings.
  • Work alongside the SMART Room Production Engineer to alternate the issuance of weekly reports on GHG emissions and energy efficiency.
  • Contribute to the formulation of strategies for the maintenance, inspection, and operation of equipment to ensure compliance with verification standards.
  • Foster positive working relationships with site personnel through effective communication and regular engagement.

Qualifications and Experience

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering is preferred, although other engineering disciplines may be considered.
  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in the maintenance of oil and gas facilities, including rotating, lifting, instrumentation, and electrical equipment.
  • Strong understanding of operational site activities.
  • Familiarity with onshore/offshore process and production systems.
  • Experience working in offshore environments is advantageous.
  • Collaborative working experience is a plus.
  • Must possess strong analytical skills and the ability to propose innovative solutions.
  • Excellent communication and interface management skills are essential for effective collaboration.
  • A strong reliability-centered approach to maintenance follow-up is required.
