Position Overview
Under the supervision of the Home Care Resource Coordinator, the Home Care Attendant (HCA) plays a vital role within the Home Care team, delivering essential personal care and support services to designated home care clients. The HCA is dedicated to assisting individuals, including those who are frail, physically disabled, or mentally challenged, in maintaining their independence and comfort within their own homes.
Key Responsibilities
The HCA will utilize sound judgment and initiative to prioritize tasks, determine appropriate work methods, and address any unique situations that may arise. This role is performed in alignment with the mission, vision, and values of Southern Health-Santé Sud, as well as adhering to established policies.
Qualifications
- Bilingual proficiency in both official languages (English/French) is essential.
- A minimum of Grade 12 education is required.
- Completion of a Home Care Attendant Certificate or Health Care Aide Certificate from an accredited post-secondary institution is necessary.
- Familiarity with Safe Food Handling practices is required.
- Prior experience in working with elderly or disabled individuals in a community environment is preferred.
- Experience in a home care program is considered an asset.
- Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively within a team setting is essential.
- Strong critical thinking skills are necessary for effective problem-solving.
- Given the cultural diversity of our region, a commitment to respecting and promoting a culturally diverse population is required.
- A demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality across various formats is essential.
- Capability to meet the physical and mental demands of the position is required.
- A solid work and attendance record is expected.
Employment Conditions
- A valid Class 5 driver's license, access to an all-purpose insured vehicle, and liability insurance of at least $1,000,000.00 are required.
