Join our team of experts in advanced materials research

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled PhD researcher to join our team at Airbus, a leading global company in the field of digital innovation, research, and development. The successful candidate will be part of our Centre de Recherche et Technologies (CRT) and will work on a PhD project focused on the development of innovative carbon fiber materials with reduced environmental impact.

The project aims to study the effects of different processing parameters on the properties of carbon fibers and to develop new methods for their production. The researcher will work closely with our team of experts in materials science and engineering to design and optimize the processing conditions for the production of high-performance carbon fibers.

The PhD student will be based at our research center in Pessac, near Bordeaux, and will have the opportunity to collaborate with our teams in Nantes and Toulouse. The project is expected to start in October 2024 and will last for 3 years.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a thorough literature review on the current state of the art in carbon fiber production and processing.
  • Design and optimize the processing conditions for the production of high-performance carbon fibers.
  • Characterize the properties of the produced carbon fibers using various techniques, including microscopy, calorimetry, and mechanical testing.
  • Develop and implement new methods for the production of carbon fibers with reduced environmental impact.
  • Collaborate with our team of experts in materials science and engineering to ensure the successful completion of the project.

Requirements:

  • Master's degree in materials science, engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong background in materials science and engineering, with a focus on carbon fibers and composite materials.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Fluency in English and French.
