Context and Key Skills
INRIA, a leading research institute in France, is seeking a highly motivated and skilled researcher to join its Rainbow team. The successful candidate will work on a PhD project titled "Forming Carbon Fiber Tissues by Visual Servoing" as part of the PERFORM program.
Job Summary
We are looking for a talented researcher with expertise in robotics, computer vision, and control systems to develop a novel approach for forming carbon fiber tissues using visual servoing. The candidate will design and implement a system that can accurately position and shape the tissue to achieve the desired properties.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a thorough literature review on deformable object manipulation and visual servoing.
- Design and develop a strategy for interacting with and manipulating deformable objects.
- Model the deformation of the object based on the movements of the grasping points.
- Develop an algorithm for tracking the deformations of the tissue using RGB-D camera data.
- Design and implement a visual servoing control system to apply a desired deformation to the object.
- Develop a protocol for experimental validation and data acquisition.
- Validate the results on a specific use case defined by INRIA.
- Collaborate with the ROC team to capitalize on the research outcomes.
- Present the research progress at the annual PERFORM seminar.
- Write scientific articles and a PhD thesis.
Requirements
- Strong background in control systems, robotics, and computer vision.
- Proficiency in C++, Python, and ROS.
- Experience with visual servoing and 3D perception using RGB-D cameras is a plus.
- Knowledge of CAD tools.
- Excellent written and spoken English skills (B2 level).
