Context and Key Skills
INRIA, a leading research institute, is seeking a highly skilled robotics engineer to join its Rainbow team. The successful candidate will work on a PhD project titled "Forming Carbon Fiber Tissues by Visual Servoing" as part of the PERFORM program.
Job Summary
We are looking for a talented robotics and computer vision expert to develop a novel approach for controlling robots to manipulate and shape carbon fiber tissues. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in robotics, computer vision, and programming languages such as C++ and Python.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct a thorough literature review on robotic manipulation of deformable objects
- Design and implement a strategy for interacting with and manipulating deformable objects
- Model the deformation of the object based on the movements of the grippers
- Develop an algorithm for tracking the deformation of the object using RGB-D camera data
- Design and implement a visual servoing system to apply a desired deformation to the object
- Develop a protocol for experimental validation and data acquisition
- Validate the results on a specific use case defined by INRIA
- Collaborate with the ROC team to capitalize on the project's outcomes
- Present progress reports at the annual PERFORM seminar
- Write scientific articles and a PhD thesis
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of robotics, computer vision, and programming languages such as C++ and Python
- Experience with ROS and CAO tools
- Good understanding of visual servoing and 3D perception with RGB-D cameras
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Fluency in English (B2 level)
