The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in ensuring that project deliverables align with safety, cost-effectiveness, and competitive standards, adhering to the project's EPC contract and relevant codes and regulations.
The Instrument & Control Engineer will be instrumental in managing the performance of the EPC Contractor and its vendors, delivering specific components of the Instrument & Control scope. Key responsibilities include:
- Providing technical oversight and validation of all Instrument and Control activities conducted by the Contractor.
- Ensuring comprehensive solutions for control, safety, and fire & gas systems are designed and integrated effectively.
- Collaborating with the Contractor during design phases and package bid evaluations to uphold project technical integrity.
- Reviewing scopes of work and man-hour estimates for specialized discipline activities as necessary.
- Conducting HAZOP / LOPA risk assessments and quantification processes.
- Applying industry standards to engineering safety instrumented systems.
- Guaranteeing that project functional specifications and scope requirements are met.
- Proactively planning for the timely request of part-time and shared client/IPMT specialist resources.
- Resolving technical queries and managing technical risks.
- Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of relevant codes, standards, and regulations related to project instrumentation, control, safety systems, and metering disciplines.
- Contributing to the engineering content of key project documents produced by the Contractor.
- Supporting and occasionally owning the engineering content for discipline-specific Tier 3 decisions.
- Overseeing the application of selected engineering codes, standards, and practices.
- Reviewing deviations raised by the Contractor and providing recommendations to the client Lead I&C Engineer.
- Facilitating integration activities with the Main Automation Contractor (MAC).
- Collaborating with the lead electrical engineer to support the interface between electrical switchgear systems.
- Working alongside other core disciplines such as Process, Process Safety, and Mechanical to verify integrated designs.
- Assisting the client PCC Engineering Manager with day-to-day technical challenges in detailed engineering.
- Reporting to the client Lead I&C Engineer's team.
Essential Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronics Engineering or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- Chartership / PE status is required.
- Significant experience in Instrumentation and Control.
- Proven track record in contractor management and project delivery during the detailed engineering phase of major projects.
- Experience in integrating package vendor systems.
- Deep expertise in multi-discipline integration.
- Ability to make pragmatic decisions and ensure engineering value is achieved.
- Demonstrated project technical management and leadership skills.
- Strong background in control & safety systems, Fire & Gas systems, digital security, and equipment package controls.
- Effective communication skills with project personnel, stakeholders, contractors, and suppliers.
- Recent experience influencing EPC contractors.
- Strong planning, organizational, and prioritization skills.
- Commitment to continuous improvement in HSSE performance.
- Self-motivated and capable of working independently.
- Collaborative team player with the ability to provide and receive constructive feedback.
- Previous experience on the client side of major greenfield project delivery.
- Experience with large EPC Contractors on major greenfield projects in an engineering capacity.
- Certification as a Functional Safety Engineer - TUV, Exida, etc.
