The Grid System Integration (GSI) division specializes in a diverse array of high voltage AC and DC transmission initiatives, including the integration of substantial Offshore Windfarms. We are seeking a skilled professional to fulfill the role of 'Low & Medium Voltage Systems Project Engineer'.
These extensive and intricate projects necessitate the installation of a considerable volume of equipment and the formulation of a supportive auxiliary power network that is both effective and robust, ensuring the overall system maintains the necessary availability.
In this position, you will collaborate with fellow design team members to first establish the system requirements, followed by the development of the auxiliary power network architecture. Subsequently, you will specify the equipment and components essential for its implementation, ultimately overseeing the design integration process.
Key ResponsibilitiesAs a Project Engineer – LV Systems, your primary responsibilities will include:
- Directing the design of the auxiliary power supply network (up to 11kV) across all projects, ensuring the system effectively meets project requirements.
- Leading the design and integration of Utility Control Systems (Utility SCADA).
- Overseeing the design of AC control and Protection Systems, ensuring proper integration with the HVDC Control system as necessary, up to the AC Grid SCADA & Control system interface.
- Developing conceptual designs and coordinating with telecom and communication systems for comprehensive system integration and client interface for AC networks.
- Understanding customer requirements, regulatory constraints, and standards to ensure comprehensive consideration by all stakeholders.
- Creating a provisional load list and auxiliary power system architecture that aligns with project needs.
- Modeling the proposed system using suitable software platforms, such as Amtech Prodesign, to validate system performance and facilitate equipment sizing and specification.
- Ensuring the network is properly protected and coordinated.
- Presenting engineering options to internal stakeholders and customers to secure agreement and advance to subsequent design stages.
- Producing necessary documentation and reports to clearly communicate the proposed design and its advantages to the customer.
- Developing equipment procurement specifications to engage the supply chain and solicit vendor offers for required equipment, collaborating with the Sourcing team to evaluate offers and identify the optimal technical solution.
- Transforming proposals into practical solutions and supervising the creation of design and installation integration drawings and related documents.
- Collaborating with mechanical, electrical, and civil designers to incorporate the auxiliary system design into the overall solution, ensuring proper provisions and interface management.
- Engaging with customers as needed to articulate the proposed design and address any inquiries or concerns.
- Partnering with the installation and commissioning team to establish a testing regime that guarantees the system meets its functional and legislative obligations.
To excel in this role, candidates should possess the following qualifications and experience:
- A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or equivalent experience.
- Over 5 years of experience in designing and delivering auxiliary power supply networks up to 11kV, with a strong understanding of:
- Electrical Load Flow and Equipment Sizing.
- LV/MV Protection Design.
- LV/MV AC Distribution Equipment.
- LV/MV Cabling.
- Diesel Generators.
- UPS systems.
- Proficiency in LV/MV network modeling software applications, such as Amtech Prodesign (or similar).
The ideal candidate will demonstrate a solid understanding of auxiliary system networks and the equipment necessary to realize the design. A working knowledge of relevant standards and documents, such as BS7671, is essential to comprehend the design constraints that must be adhered to.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills are crucial, along with the ability to engage confidently with internal stakeholders and customers to propose solutions or enhancements for successful designs.
The candidate should be a collaborative team player, capable of self-management, exhibiting flexibility, resilience, and a commitment to continuous learning.
Experience in technical problem-solving and knowledge of the Transmission or Distribution industry is preferred.
Willingness to travel for short or medium periods is also essential.
