About the Position
The Observatoire de Paris-PSL is seeking a highly skilled Postdoctoral Research Assistant to join its team in the Laboratory for Space Studies and Instrumentation in Astronomy (LESIA). The successful candidate will work on the GRAVITY+ project, a cutting-edge astronomical initiative that aims to measure the black hole masses of active galactic nuclei across cosmic time and obtain high-quality exoplanet spectra and orbits.
Main Responsibilities
- Lead the systematic data analysis of VLTI/GRAVITY data concerning the Milky Way Galactic Center supermassive black hole Sgr A* and its surroundings.
- Develop and extend preexisting data reduction and interpretation codes to include systematic effects.
- Collaborate with the consortium on GRAVITY+ science and participate in observing runs on the VLTI in Chile.
- Ensure the publication of the GRAFITY codes as free software.
Requirements
- PhD in astrophysics or a related field.
- Experience in data modeling, astrophysical modeling, task automation, and parallelization.
- Proficiency in Python programming and Bayesian statistics.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
About the Team
The Observatoire de Paris-PSL is one of the largest astronomical centers in the world, hosting the LESIA laboratory. The team has developed GRAFITY, a set of Python codes to perform data reduction and analysis, and is now seeking a highly skilled researcher to take the project to the next level.
