This PhD thesis will take place in the COAST team at INRIA, under the supervision of Claudia-Lavinia Ignat and Gérald Oster.

Research Mission

The objective of this research is to design and implement a distributed collaborative file system that allows users to share files directly, without the need for a central authority. The system must support hybrid collaboration modes, including connected, disconnected, and ad-hoc collaboration.

Main Activities

  • Study of literature on CRDTs (Conflict-free Replicated Data Types)
  • Investigation of peer-to-peer infrastructures, such as IPFS
  • Design and implementation of a file system CRDT with merging semantics
  • User studies for testing the proposed system

Required Skills

  • Engineering or Master's degree in Computer Science or Applied Mathematics
  • Theoretical expertise in distributed systems and P2P networks
  • Good collaborative and networking skills, excellent written and oral communication in English
  • Good programming skills
  • Strong analytical skills
