Lead Service Reliability Engineer

Within Amadeus Hospitality, the primary aim of the Media sector is to stimulate demand and enhance client market shares by promoting their offerings across various platforms and channels (web searches, websites, social media, GDS, mobile). Our clientele includes hotels seeking to attract more guests, cities or regions aiming to draw in more visitors, as well as airlines striving to entice more travelers.

Over the years, Amadeus has developed a premier data-driven travel advertising platform, bolstered by strategic alliances with advertising leaders (Google, Facebook, Microsoft, among others), capable of reaching billions of travelers worldwide daily. The Media sector is rapidly expanding, targeting a billion in revenue in the forthcoming years. Our dedicated teams are crucial to achieving this objective, and we invite YOU to be part of this journey.

Unlike many media agencies that depend solely on third-party software for managing advertising campaigns, Amadeus has established its own advertising platform, recognized by our clients for addressing unique use cases and enabling a more focused approach. This platform is constructed with a microservices architecture , utilizing some of the latest technologies such as Golang, Scala, Python, gRPC, GraphQL, Kafka, Apache Airflow, Apache Beam, Aerospike, Redis, PostgreSQL . It processes 160k transactions per second , leveraging a PB-size Google BigQuery hosted data warehouse, an innovative AI executing up to 250k predictions per second , and is hosted on GCP (Google Cloud Platform). Our machine learning models are developed using Python, Tensorflow, Keras, LightGBM , and more.

Our infrastructure adheres to the latest industry standards ( Terraform, Kubernetes, Helm, FluxCD, GitHub Actions, CircleCI, GCP [Google Cloud Platform], GKE [Google Kubernetes Engine], Thanos, Prometheus, Grafana, Apache Airflow / Google Cloud Composer, Apache Beam / Google Cloud Dataflow, Google BigQuery, Aerospike, Redis, PostgreSQL, Google BigTable , ...) and is designed with a GitOps mindset. Our SRE team oversees our CI/CD workflows, maintaining a healthy and collaborative relationship with the development teams.

The next phase in the evolution of our platform involves expanding our geographical presence by deploying our stack to additional continents , as well as gradually integrating parts of the Hospitality advertising business into this platform.

As a Lead Service Reliability Engineer, your contributions will be vital in all future significant transformations, focusing on the stability and security of the platform.

The responsibilities of the SRE team encompass the following:

  • Continuous evolution of the infrastructure and implementation of new standards
  • Supporting projects for geographical expansion
  • Monitoring and maintaining the infrastructure
  • Supporting and mentoring the R&D teams
  • Ensuring the platform's stability
  • Safeguarding the platform's security
  • Maintaining and evolving CI/CD processes

In this role, you will:

  • Maintain and enhance our production and staging infrastructure.
  • Manage the complete application stack on Google Cloud.
  • Engage in the analysis of new requirements and develop core services to support and enhance our IT team's productivity.
  • Provide SRE expertise to assess and implement new services and data processing solutions.
  • Offer technical guidance and expertise to the organization.
  • Participate in the development of multi-year roadmaps for infrastructure evolution and process industrialization.
  • Focus on creating systems automation and provisioning frameworks to boost delivery teams' autonomy and ownership.
  • Mentor, support, and coach IT team members regarding tools, concepts, and cloud best practices. Communicate effectively with team members, peers, and management.

About the ideal candidate:

  • Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills (English).
  • Demonstrates strong analytical thinking.
  • Exhibits strong troubleshooting abilities – often serving as the last line of support for all infrastructure issues.
  • Has hands-on experience with Kubernetes (or OpenShift) and a solid understanding of Kubernetes concepts & the ecosystem.
  • Has prior experience with one of the major cloud providers: AWS, GCP, Azure.
  • Is familiar with the concepts and practical aspects of the Prometheus-based monitoring stack (PromQL, Prometheus, Thanos, Grafana).
  • Is knowledgeable about CI/CD concepts & tools, ideally CircleCI and GitHub Actions.
  • Can code in at least one (general-purpose or scripting) programming language, ideally Go, Bash, Python, or Java.
  • Prior experience with Terraform (best practices, code organization) is a strong advantage.
  • Some familiarity with Helm is also beneficial.
  • Having knowledge of managing SQL and key-value store databases is a plus.
