Electrical Senior Authorised Person Job Description

Mercury is a leading European construction solutions provider, delivering complex engineering and construction projects for top corporations. As an Electrical Senior Authorised Person, you will play a critical role in ensuring the safe management and implementation of electrical safety rules across our data centre portfolio.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Implement, administer, monitor, and audit Mercury's electrical safety rules to ensure a safe system of work.
  • Provide necessary cover for all electrical systems and installations under Mercury's control.
  • Ensure adherence to Mercury's Operation and Energisation procedures for work on LV&MV systems.
  • Manage authorised person appointments on the project and maintain records on BIM360.
  • Oversee LOTO processes and procedures onsite, aligning with Mercury's Operation and Energisation procedures.
  • Ensure low voltage switching plans are executed on site for all LV circuits.
  • Ensure high voltage/medium voltage switching plans are executed on site for all HV/MV circuits.
  • Supervise and lead prospective systems carrying out switching operations on the HV/LV system.
  • Implement QR code processes for ACB/MCCB on the project, as directed by the management team.
  • Maintain training records and relevant information regarding authorisation.
  • Ensure staff are trained to local authorised persons requirements.
  • Ensure authorised persons have completed high voltage or low voltage training courses.
  • Communicate operational restrictions and dangerous occurrences to the team.
  • Manage electrical permits on the project, aligning with Mercury's Operation and Energisation procedures.
  • Present toolbox talks to the project team at regular intervals.
  • Execute pre-power-on tasks, including toolbox talks, electrical signage installation, and test documentation development.
  • Ensure electrical signage is in place on the project.
  • Investigate equipment subject to operational restrictions and incidents involving electrical equipment.
  • Notify the Mercury Designated Person of accidents, incidents, or dangerous occurrences.
  • Ensure correct Arc Flash PPE is worn by personnel working in electrical rooms.
  • Implement and manage a system for reviewing and approving switching schedules.
  • Manage the day-to-day maintenance and operation of Technical Services Electrical engineering on the data centre portfolio.
  • Implement and manage maintenance policies for the Technical Services Department.
  • Attend site meetings, internal project reviews, engineering reviews, and handover meetings.
  • Assist with project close-out, including final accounts, O&M manuals, and safety files.
  • Drive the Mercury Engineering culture of safety and quality through the project.
  • Provide safety and quality leadership on all Mercury projects.
  • Ensure subcontractor documentation, including safety documentation, is up to date and filed for future reference.
Essential Criteria:
  • A trade background and 10-15 years of experience managing large installation projects and subcontractors.
  • Completed high voltage authorised person training course within the last 2 years.
  • Completed low voltage authorised person training course within the last 2 years.
  • Proven record of supervising and managing large installation projects.
  • In-depth knowledge of Health, Safety, and Quality compliance.
  • Experience in design and build.
  • Excellent technical knowledge of Electrical systems.
  • Knowledge of Mechanical systems.
  • Excellent IT skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to work well within strict deadlines.
  • Ability to drive a large-scale project.
