Position Overview
We are looking for an experienced HVAC Construction Lead to spearhead the HVAC construction initiatives for a significant nuclear project. This position demands a robust background in managing large-scale EPC (Engineering, Procurement, and Construction) projects, particularly in brownfield environments. The ideal candidate will collaborate with various construction discipline leads, the Client, and design partners to ensure the effective delivery of HVAC systems that adhere to the rigorous standards of the nuclear industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership in Construction
- Direct HVAC construction efforts, ensuring they align with project objectives, timelines, and safety protocols.
- Engage with other discipline leads to facilitate the integration of HVAC systems with overall project components.
- Project Management
- Oversee the planning and execution of HVAC construction tasks, ensuring adherence to budget and quality standards.
- Utilize a staged gate/RIBA approach to manage the HVAC construction process, confirming each phase meets required criteria before advancing.
- Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement
- Work closely with the Client, design partners, and stakeholders to ensure HVAC systems meet project specifications and regulatory standards.
- Foster strong relationships with all project stakeholders to promote effective communication throughout the project lifecycle.
- Compliance and Safety
- Ensure all HVAC construction activities are compliant with nuclear safety regulations and industry best practices.
- Coordinate with regulatory bodies to secure necessary approvals and maintain compliance.
- Risk Assessment
- Identify and manage risks related to HVAC construction, developing strategies to mitigate potential issues.
- Conduct regular risk evaluations and adjust plans as needed to achieve project goals.
- Team Development
- Lead and mentor a team of HVAC construction professionals, promoting a culture of safety and technical excellence.
- Provide necessary resources and training to ensure team members can effectively fulfill their roles.
- Quality Control
- Implement stringent quality assurance processes to ensure HVAC construction activities meet or exceed industry standards.
- Conduct inspections and audits to verify compliance with quality and safety regulations.
- Health, Safety, and Environment (HSE)
- Promote a strong safety culture, prioritizing the health and safety of personnel and environmental protection.
- Ensure adherence to HSE policies and lead investigations into incidents as necessary.
- Documentation and Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive documentation of HVAC construction activities, including progress reports and regulatory submissions.
- Provide updates to senior management and stakeholders regarding construction progress and any issues requiring attention.
Qualifications
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, HVAC Engineering, Construction Management, or a related field. A master's degree or relevant certifications (e.g., Chartered Engineer (CEng), Certified HVAC Designer) is preferred.
- Experience: A minimum of 10 years in HVAC construction within the nuclear or energy sectors, with a proven history in new build EPC projects, especially on brownfield sites.
