We are seeking a highly skilled Commercial Counsel to join our team at Coty, a leading beauty company with a portfolio of iconic brands. As a Commercial Counsel, you will play a key role in providing day-to-day support to our Luxury and Consumer Beauty brands on legal matters related to product development, marketing, and sales.
Key Responsibilities- Provide strategic, solutions-oriented business partner support to our marketing and sales teams in supported regions for various brands, both licensed and Coty-owned.
- Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of contracts, including distribution, retail, and travel retail agreements, talent contracts, sponsorship agreements, promotion and marketing agreements, influencer agreements, music agreements, agency agreements, e-commerce agreements, licensing agreements, and procurement contracts.
- Provide EU regulatory advice on marketing claims and product regulations, including claims substantiations, and oversee various litigation matters.
- Keep abreast of the latest legal developments on these subjects and participate in training courses offered by the FEBEA (trade union in the cosmetic industry for manufacturers operating in France).
- Conduct trainings to internal employees on legal topics, including pricing practices, dawn raids, claims substantiation, and Coty internal policies.
- Provide high-quality legal advice and counsel in a timely manner to a wide array of business and operational colleagues on matters including marketing, regulatory, claims substantiation, advertising, litigation, competition law, and digital.
- Manage and work with outside counsels in various matters, including risk assessment, regulatory updates, litigations, and perform other departmental duties as needed.
- Minimum of 3-5 years' commercial law experience at a global law firm, ideally in the luxury, cosmetics, pharmaceutical, or consumer goods sector, either within private practice or as an in-house lawyer.
- Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in French and English.
- Good collaborator: team player and humble, adaptable, flexible, and responsive to feedback and change.
- Proactively seek improvement, are a solution provider and problem solver, and escalate issues before they become problems.
- Think strategically and can analyze complex legal and policy issues from a commercial perspective.
- Highly professional and act with integrity, taking responsibility for the quality of all deliverables and being proactive in learning and developing new skills.
- Resilient and multitasking: able to work on multiple matters simultaneously, often in challenging situations involving urgent matters, and work independently at times with cross-functional resources.
- Highly responsive: have a sense of urgency to deliver timely advice and provide real-time feedback.
