Your Role: Database Reliability Engineer

We are seeking a skilled Database Reliability Engineer to join our Database Optimization team. You will play a crucial role in ensuring the performance and stability of our databases, which are essential to our platform's success.

Responsibilities:

  • Guide feature teams on best practices for database management.
  • Collaborate on strategies to break down our primary PostgreSQL database (30TB) into smaller, more manageable units.
  • Analyze query performance and data models, providing recommendations to feature teams for optimization.
  • Implement monitoring and alerting systems to proactively identify potential performance issues.
  • Execute maintenance tasks on our managed databases to enhance stability and improve overall performance.
  • Mentor junior engineers on database performance challenges, including query optimization and best practices.

Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of experience as a Database Administrator or Engineer with a focus on reliability and scalability.
  • Proven ability to identify and resolve database performance bottlenecks.
  • Excellent communication skills, enabling effective knowledge transfer.
  • Experience in mentoring junior engineers on database performance challenges (queries optimization and best practices).
  • A passion for continuous learning and improvement within a collaborative team environment.
  • Business fluency in English.

Bonus Points:

  • Experience with architectural decisions for high-traffic web applications, particularly addressing scalability challenges on large databases.
  • Familiarity with cloud-based environments and databases such as AWS Aurora PostgreSQL.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB.
  • Knowledge of Change Data Capture ecosystems & technologies like Kafka and Debezium.
